Screamer WiMax

I doubt anyone would want to really respond to your blatant personal attacks, show me one fact in your attack on daffy...)

OK, peanut I'll take a short time to respond to your post and if you don't like it you can run off and get your poodle to delete it. So much for a free forum...

As far as personal attacks go, I quote......

your e-penis must be huuuuuge

As far as your mates jealousy soaked posts about Screamer are concerned here is an example of him quoting absolute nonsense....

So you haven't applied for an AS, got your own IP allocations. Started doing your own peering like a grown-up ISP.

So basically, screamer are still a little WISP.

Fortunately the very polite Screamer rep took the time to once again correct him..

We have our own AS and IP allocations but our upstream providers have to accept our VGP peering information.

The bottom line is that you and your girlfriend are sick with envy at Screamers success and whenever you get the chance you publish some nonsensical opinion and get all hiffy when someone calls you on it.

Just ignore him people. I'm sure he lies awake at night and thinks about these things...

This is the conspiracy he's come up with, and no amount of reasoning is going to change his mind.
Move along then.

No, once you get a public IP you are automatically routed past our proxy

We are waiting for our upstream bandwidth providers to get their systems ready and then we will be allocating them generally. If you want one now they are available at R25 p/month.

Cool .Thanks for the feedback Howzit.

Just FYI.

I downloaded Windows 7 Professional from the Microsoft Software Assurance site..........2.2GB in 2 hours :D:D:D

not sure how that stacks up against the competition, but this is fine by me.

Hmmm....

Lonehill East tower down this morning.

Hope this doesn't become a habit, we been almost 3 hours without internet now...

Question time again...

1) No one has been able to answer me regarding News servers.
Can I connect to SAIX's news server?

2) Does screamer have a 24/7 technical support service?

3) During the installation.. How long is the cable from the antenna to IDU?

4) Does it connect as follows?
Antenna -> IDU -> Router (Linksys WRT54GS) -> Lame PC?

Thanks. They coming (hopefully) on Tuesday to install.
:D

1) I could never get it working and gave up in the end (yes, let the booing begin...). I remember the support guys confirmed that all the ports are open, so that wasn't the problem, but can't recall exactly what the cause was.

2) I never used it after 9pm. Check their website? More importantly is the competency of their technicians - I found some very able guys on the other side of the phone line; also some less competent (as with any support centre I suppose). My advice is to write down the name of the good ones and ask for them every time you phone in, even at the expense of waiting longer.

3) It depends on where the antenna and IDU are place. I placed my IDU in the tv cabinet, so the cable ran through the roof, on the ceiling and then through the tv cable trunking; approx. 25m. Not sure why this is important though, unless you're planning to have a CAT cable run for a couple of hundred metres.

4) Yes. Technically, the antenna is called CPE. This post describes it nicely

Hi

A router board went on the blink and had to be replaced and unfortunately traffic at that time of the morning from Centurion is not very friendly.:o

All is well in Screamerland again.;) Thanks for the feedback Howzit.

Woohoo !!!!!

Been a screamer for 5 hours now - so far so good.
The initial tests showed a signal of about -79db (which is borderline bad apparently).

Here's my speedtest

Ranges between 512k and 1.3Mb speed. :D

My pings in COD4 are about 100 or so -> :(
My ping in OF:DR are about 450ms -> :)

Yeah, I like Wimax sofar.

Go Screamer !!!!

Welcome iDenTiTy.

My road to Screamerland has been rocky but I hope it all sorted now cause the speeds are good.

Anyone having issues today?

My browsing and speedtest seem fine but WoW is absolutely horrible, 8k+ pings.

Looks like everything is fine on the wireless side of things, maybe an upstream issue.

Anybody that has a static IP, are you able to get ICMP past the firewall? Since I got my static I haven't been able to ping anything

Still struggling SilverZA?

Any electronic components can pop at any time and with the technology involved it should not surprise people that there could be problems.

I am also a Screamer client due to Telkom's inabillity to control cable theft.

Back then it was a rough start, but at the moment I am extremely happy with their service and would recommend it to anyone.

Wireless technology will probably never be as good as copper or fibre but if those are not available settle for what you can get. And Screamer is providing a damn good service!:D

I will be happy if I stop being bumped from the network - and this has been going on for over a year :(

And what does Screamer say?:D

A range of answers ... too many to quote.

I have walked a long path with them ... many issues and problems but finally we have arrived at the point where their internal network is fairly solid.

Now the issues are with their upstream providers and the edge between them and said providers.

I think we are approaching a common understanding of the problem and it relates to NAT and the impact of resets on interactive applications.

I agree, have also come a long way with them. Glad I stuck with them though. Otherwise I would have still been stuck with NO INTERNET.:D
