Uh, why do you say that?
Because they weren't mentioned as a potential bidder. Got >R750,000 spare? Or are you going to swap out all your 2.5Ghz kit?

Hi all,
I am considering getting Screamer as an alternative to Telscum, I will mainly be using it for online game play (XBL) - FPS and so and so....my question is this
* What should I choose..WiMax or WiFi?
* Will I be able to play FPS Games on a 512Kb/s line?
* Which is more stable of the above mentioned?
* And what size cap should I take if I don't take uncapped (seeing as its only 3c p/m out of cap)
* Will it be shaped or unshaped?
I would appreciate your input as I have read a lot of negative reviews of screamer.
Thanx in advance

Does anyone know if there is a performance difference between the Navini and CPE systems? I ask as I just signed up and am using the Navini and so far my signal keeps dissappearing (both yesterday morning and today, no signal) and when it is there the speeds are terrible (try 2 hours to download 20MB), and I am wondering if switching to a CPE will boost my speeds?

Thought it was worth creating a thread in this sub-forum.
My experience to date:
- Quick to do site test
- Friendly
- Some coordination problems with their installer (sub-contracted)
- Individual service - not sure it will scale well but time will tell
- Installation not yet live (2 days of antennae installation) due to a delay in provisioning me on their network
So far I am happy but this will change if:
- Any further delays in connecting (so far the reasons are relatively acceptable)
- Latency or stability proves to be unacceptable
Let's share our experiences as independent infrastructure operators are likely to take-off due to recent rulings.
Fixed antenna kit will always be better. And the Navini's are a heap of crap anyway, Cisco have stopped making them even.
Thanx for all the feedback guys, I value your input. Some Rep just told me they don't do the WiMAX in my area just WiFi, wich is odd as my suburb is listed on their site to have WiMAX coverage and I stay about 3 or 4 Blocks away from the main tower in my suburb and I have as they say "line of sight". Oh well I suppose I will put the WiFi to the test then![]()
Has anyone here been getting dc's lately ?
The last four days everyday at 17:30 and 20:00 i get dc'd for roughly 5 minutes and then all is well again ?
"Howzit" any insight to this ? (I'm connected to the bryanview tower, or at least i think thats the correct name)
Hi there Ciruis
We don't have any regular dc maintenence running and have had a look at the towers and have not seen anything. Do you not have any time based program running on your system that might be causing the dc? If it happens again let me know
Getting about 130ms locally (measured to Speedtest.net's Jhb server). I have been told by Screamer that they spend the first few days after installation fine tuning the connection and that I can expect a significant improvement.
Hi everyone.
I live in an area that is pretty much dominated by screamer. The entire estate has has screamer telephones/internet installed.
My problem is that, for over a year ive been arguing with screamer, trying to get a decent connection.
Then, about two weeks ago, it normalised. I could play wow, surf the net, stream movies and everything perfectly. It was really nice to have a "normal" internet connection for that time.
Then they did maintence or something last week. My net is horrible again. Ive called them many times, so much so that ive even spend over R1000 on airtime trying to get some help.
They have done so much and yet so little. They send technicians to my house, and they tell me what i already know, that i have high latency, but they cant do anything cause the people at screamer head office are gone.
They say they are going to reset this information and that information or i should reset the router or flush my dns and check the dns gateways and things. Ive had this latency issue for over a year...i would try the "normal" fixes before trying to waste my time calling screamer.
Another question here, how are you guys getting 200ms ? I get around 500ish when screamer is being good. At the moment, like last night, i was on 21k, yes...21k. Try doing arena with that...it looks like your hacking the game
Okay, lemme close my kick and moan now. All im asking for from screamer, is a decent stable connection. I know its asking alot, but they can do it. When we first got screamer, 2 years ago, it was simply the best isp i had ever used. Now its so bad. Wow kicks me randomly now. I can log for 10 seconds max. Im so sad about it, but i cant go to failkom, cause they dont have proper connections for adsl in my estate (Or so they say). I hope someone, anyone can help me solve my issue with screamer and i can get a decent service for once.
Please fix this ****, almost every day it happens for a while in the evening.
