Screamer WiMax

Does anyone know what affects latency over WiMax? From what I have read online, assuming that you have any signal, the over-the-air latency is negligble and the majority of the latency is from the base station back to the server? I have been getting some pretty terrible connections on Xbox Live (especially voice chat with local friends) and was wondering if this is a signal or Screamer issue...
 
Brentwood Park tower shakey

Hi. We have seen posts about possible hardware failures and spectrum interference - I also received an sms from Screamer stating that the tower is being worked on (thanks for notification). What is strange to me is that the connection freeze up every now and then and by re-logging in it actually works reasonably well for a few minutes. Thereafter the speed deteriorate and freeze up again.

Here is speedtest from JHB (which is the 'better' results between JHB and Midrand choice).... which show speeds a lot less than what I'm used too (unlimited 384k). Hope that the tower is sorted out soooooon :-)

 
This is exactly what I am seeing now as well since they replaced hardware and worked on the tower.

The connection freezes up and I have to go reboot the screamer gear to get it working again :/
Trying to re-establish the pppoe conenction does nothing if I down power cycle their equipment

This is what I have to put up with every day. For ***** sakes Screamer, sort out your damn network or towers or whatever. Everytime you told me its sorted and then couple days later........
Howzit, may I request a refund for the days I'm getting dialup speeds from you guys, huh.
Doesnt this whole thread tell you that there's something WRONG.
 
Well last night again I had no international connectivity. Right when I had got home I had to go back to the office again because of that

I have just spoken to A**** ( installations dept ) now – I am totally disappointed at responses received
If I hadn’t called, I assume I would have not received any feedback nor did I receive an acknowledgement of my mail sent

I guess all the Broadband Forums were correct – SCREAMER IS NOT THE WAY TO GO , WITH REGARDS TO YOUR SERVICE ETC, I HAVE NOW EXPERIENCED IT FIRST HAND !!!!

I wish to place on record my total disappointment with regards to the proposed installation that was due to take place yesterday.

The technicians arrived without the proper equipment, didn’t even know Screamer had a tower in Brakpan until it was pointed out to them. They were running around on my roof for over an hour trying to find signal to the tower, how can this be ?

My neighbour is also a customer of Screamer, installation done by a reseller, they didn’t even know the equipment on his roof was a Screamer product and were baffled – never ever saw it in their life !!!

Wow ! Don’t know if I am making the right move here, if this is the service from start.

Installation could not be done yesterday

Plz advise the way forward as this is totally not on !!!!!

What is happening on the Brentwood tower. Again over the weekend wow latency has been very very spikey.
 
Awww man. Laggy sunday nights make me a sad panda... Any idea when were getting back to normal speeds ?

Helpdesk says there is NO problem

It seems like after you replaced hardware on the Brentwood park tower my signal has gone from FULL ( I am 2km from the tower in direct LOS ) to 1/3.
I now only sync on the QPS protocols and am getting packet drops which is why I am getting the lag spikes.

Howzit , how is this possible ?
I have a call reference 511700 opened.

Been fine for me last month or so, but tonight its bad, I got lots of packet loss in WoW and Ventrillo.
 
Please may we know whats going on, and more importaintly, when should we be expecting our internet to get back to a more stable, normal state ?

Im not sure which tower im connecting to, I think its one in fairie glen, pretoria. Maybe this is a screamer wide issue, as i see people connecting to different towers, with similar issues.
 
What REALLY gets me is how regularly there is an issue with the Tower I am connecting to. It would appear that these guys do fire fighting as apposed to preventative maintenance.
I can't remember a week where I haven't received a text stating that they are aware of a problem with the tower.

Come on guys!! I recall getting a text about a recent upgrade?? Did you buy all your parts from cash converters?
 
By the way... any Screamer users done a comparison against Amobia? In terms of WOW performance :P
 
It turns out I used to have one of the best signals on my tower ( Brentwood park)
I can see 2 base staitions
On 1 I have perfect uplink but no downlink
On the other I have perfect downlink , no uplink..

So LOS is not a problem. But seems as if there has been a big f up ever since they had the hardware issue on that tower

This downtime has actually cost me a fair amount in personal time lost ( having to drive back into work ) as well as bandwidth used on another provider because my uncapped ( and paid ) 512k was non existant. So to all those who had to endure my abuse, now you know why.
