SEACOM’s effect will take time

They first want to further rape us untill we die of aids. Then who would they sell broadband to? Hmmm. Fsucking robbing thieves!
 
Relax guys, this is just a quote from one guy. I dunno where all the "industry experts" are that the Staff writer was talking about.

We have heard from plenty others that there will be significant reductions and ripple effects. Neotel still has to speak on the matter and they are a major Seacom partner.

All it takes is one ISP starting a price war and the walls start tumbling.
 
2 months till completion as stated in the article & the excuses for not dropping prices are already rolling in. I think the Seacom investors should be carefull, cause we'll go and dig up your f-ing cable and sell it to buy more bandwidth. Just like "Telkom cable thieves".

An optimist in Africa may as well be a dead duck. Nobody jumps camp but I always expected that we will receive messages about not expecting too much just before the eminent Seacom arrival. See Neotel is involved, Who are they?

A few months ago I was reading how seacom will make bandwidth in SA so much cheaper and that the saving will passed down to the consumer, now I'm reading that it is not going to make much of a difference! wtf! Looks like we are going to all be stuck under the thumbs of the main players involved in seacom for the next 10 years or something ridiculous! rant rant rant...
 
Load of crud. If this was so, expect every second tom dick and harry to open up their own ISP to skim from the lucrative market.
 
Typical marketing bull ****.

We get daily articles about how SEACOM is our savour, then suddenly a few months before the launch the tune changes to "don't expect much". Well guess what. The first ISP to jump the oligopoly ship and lower prices get's my business. Who's with me?

There is the crux of the matter. They wiil all remain in cahoots. I realise things will be (a little) better but still do not believe we will have what we had a few years back any time soon. Speed will increase but so will cost. They will remain milking the African cows forever. Thats why the East progressed well in the last 30+ years and Africa .. well just died.

When I heard NOtel (SA GOV shareholders?) is involved in Seacom I thought by myself "There goes all hope of private competition against the corporate GOV backed thieves."

This goes to prove my theory that SA businesses make ridiculous profits from nothing. We are SA consumers don't have any other choice and they know it. We know the profits these guys make just by converting the american prices of goods into rands. Sometimes its even cheaper to buy overseas and have it shipped. Unfortunately we cant do that with bandwidth.

The whole point of Seacom is to decrease expenses and in so doing, increase profits.
As much as I still wanna be optimistic, one industry player making comments like these may have a snowball effect and others will just follow suit.

We need to somehow find a way to make these people understand that we demand lower prices. Trade unions do it, why can't we!

you seriously believe that Altech, Neotel, Axxess, WebAfrica, OpenWeb, Nashua, Vodacom, MTN, and all these other players are all going to stay in cahoots? All it takes is one to say, "I can make more money by singing up more members, and I can sign up more members by dropping my prices". That is seriously all it takes. Even now the ISPs are pushing products that take us to the limit in order to sign up more subscribers. When Mweb cancelled the local uncapped several ISPs jumped to grab those subscribers. Even if Seacom doesn't push the lower prices, there is another cable right behind them coming up their ass. The next one will be here within another year. No, there is no turning back now.

I think this staff writer and the CEO of IS are full of k@k and are trying to yank our chains. I say eff them. I am going to get my better package from someone else then.

There will be too many companies who can offer better deals. Consumers will talk with their wallets.

That is all.
 
What I don't see in the article is why he is saying it will take time? What are the reason(s) for this reported delay in giving benefits through to customers????
 
Now im pissd off. I suspected this to happen but was hoping I was wrong. I was hoping such a thing a good always triumphs was true...
