SEACOM’s effect will take time

the answer here is very simple......

1) the operators will state they have to recover the operational costs of the cable therefore keeping profits high.

2) After an equilibrium has been reached they will then start to make their true profit.

3) the operators will not want to decline their profits and will keep the price at the same market price as it would become an acceptable price by the market to pay for a service like that.

in other words......the price will never decrease, when has it ever?

dammit, i was going to ask that. but we all know the reason... They are greedy evil bastards that enjoy screwing the consumer. All they can think of is profit profit. I hope they all go to Hell!

which ever isp offers the best prices wins the most customers, therefore increasing profits in the long run, so i will go after the best package their is after a few months. but i wont sign into a contract right now.
 
Heh Heh ! And when I first told people this was going to happen they told me I should stop being such a dooms day proffit and not be so pesimistic.

The prices will go UP not DOWN. Seacom needs to show some ROI and this has been a huge investment they made so they will want some serious returns on it.

Telkom loves Seacom because with Seacoms increased prices they can push up theirs as well.

Take a look around at how many people pays for ADSL and DSTV because it is all they have. Seacom knows the SA consumer will go with what ever they can get so their is no reason for them to offer lower prices. The SA consumer will pay whatever we want cause we have what they want.
 
The IS CEO pointed out that SEACOM is a ‘standalone’ cable system which does not provide any redundancy. This means that current SAT3/SAFE clients will initially only use SEACOM for cheaper additional capacity.

I call bull

When we get notifications that international is down from saix or IS, where is the implied redundancy?

Then only Local works 100%, and International only 0.0000001% working, PROVING that SAT3/SAFE is also a ‘standalone’ cable system which does not provide any redundancy as witnessed and felt by most ADSL users in South Africa.

Once cable lands, make 1000% profit compared to low profit margins and rape consumers for as long as possible just for quick mula ..... :sick: really....

Seacom has already published their prices and they are ten times lower than Telkom. Which planet have you been living on?

If anyone is going to keep the prices inflated, it is not Seacom.

Exactly ... its the SA companies that are ripping us off. I saw a brilliant graphic representation of how all the car manufacturers are linked, what an eye opener!!! I'd love to see the same thing for our telecommunications.

Government ownes Telkom and some of Neotel, Telkom owns some of vodacom and mtn, all of these okes are in cahoots somewhere .... All ISP's go through the same routes. hmmm competitions tribunal needed again !

Well, you are going to have to distinguish between top tier providers like IS, Neotel and Telkom and the smaller Service Providers. They don't all have the same economic interests. Then there are the IECNS licence holders... who now have the capability to build their own networks.

You just need one of the ISPs to tap directly into Seacom using their own IECNS license and they can then resell that bandwidth over existing ADSL lines.

Price wars are coming guys... as soon as the ISP's end their existing contracts with current providers you will see prices starting to drop or packages starting to bulge.

ROI - go read it up. Seacom is not a charity and I am sure what ever you read came with a disclaimer saying prices are subject to change.

They are preparing us for disappointment. They will milk us as long as possible before being force to reduce prices due to "more" competition in the far future.

That is going to happen ... no doubt, but we are still stuck with the same crap infrastructure ... telkom copper and their adsl line rental. who is honestly going to run new fiber networks accross SA. That will not happen for a long time. and if it does it will probably be a digital TV / IS all in one provider. But that is wishfull thinking. Cause not even Neotel has made a dent in the last 2 yrs.
 
Yea milk us a bit to fund their own network infrastructure and only then will they lower the prices.

in other words, the bandwidth will be cheaper, but you get to use more of it.
 
so the CEO of Seacom and the CEO of IS are saying the same thing... more bandwidth at a cheaper price. Instead of R500 for 10 Gigs, you will be getting 100 Gigs. price remains the same so they get the same profit level.
