SEACOM construction finished!

Its like early in the morning when you are still dreaming but you are almost awake and you know that all the wonderful things you dreamt of was just a dream but you don't want to wake up just yet because you want to go back to the dream...

Guys can someone perhaps show me the diffs in bandwidth capacity bewteen seacom and the Sat3 cable ? A comparasion would be nice. I know that Seacom have 1,28 TB but what is SAT3 capacity ? I cannot seem to find that info , I seem to recall many moons ago it was 200gb+- ?? anyone out there please ?

SEACOM Media Day

Hi ,

Somehow -- I dunno -- maybe they felt sorry for me :D

Anyway I am off to the SEACOM Launch media day next week.

If anyone has any burning questions I will try and ask them. I am not a media rep so no guarantees -- but send me your questions anyway. ;)

a nice close up shot of Brian Herlihy for you to hang up on your wall ???

Just NOT ; how soon -- how much cheaper -- how much more cap :D

I think that EVERYONE is going to be asking that. :D

the HUMBLED one

From a pratical standpoint, theoretical max capacity is not that important (tho it does influence pricing models). As fibre transmission technology evolves, the theoretical max should increase.

What is more prevelant is the commissioned/actived capacity, so for the near future you can think of Seacom as a 80Gbps cable (sum total of confirmed capacity orders for launch, as announced by Seacom's CEO).

The cable may be 1.28Tbps, but remember that goes to a whole bunch of countries. This article and this one seems to indicate Neotel only have 10Gb/s

Chatterbuck believes that the capacity of 10Gb/sec Neotel has already ordered would run out in less than 18 months based on growth potential in the telecommunications market.

In time Neotel will need more capacity than the 10GB per second it has ordered as demand for bandwidth soars.

I assume 10GB per second is actually 10Gbs

ON TIME

Bout time. :D

SEACOM CEO

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

SEACOM is in its final stretch! With the rapid progress of SEACOM’s construction, we will soon be providing cheaper and faster bandwidth to our customers. The Site Acceptance Testing was recently completed in Mombasa, and the terminal installation has also been completed in South Africa.

Completion of construction, however, is just the first step in making SEACOM a reality for our customers. This past month, Health Safety and Community training was held in Dar es Salaam, where we also had a consultation with the local fishermen. In Pune, India, an operation training class was attended by the recent personnel additions to the Mumbai, Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa and NOC teams.

In order to position and establish the SEACOM brand in Africa and create awareness of our product offering, we launched an above-the-line advertising campaign. Hopefully you will have already spotted our adverts in a number of print publications and when travelling, keep an eye out for our billboards at various airports. You can also keep up with us on Twitter!!! Our screen name is “SeacomLive” so make sure you follow us. We will also be launching our SEACOM Blog in the next few weeks; our way of keeping up with our end users and listening to what you have to say about SEACOM and how it will affect your lives.

There really are no words to describe how excited we are and we hope you feel the same....stay tuned!

Come One -- Come All

Come and get some of your OWN

SEACOM ACCESS

Design information

The SEACOM cable will land at an Open Access landing station in Mtunzini near to the current SAT-3 / SAFE cable landing station in accordance with Neotel's International Gateway Licence Permitting the SEA Cable System to land in territorial waters of South Africa. The cable station in Mtuzini will be treated as an 'essential facility' ensuring all South African customers equal and open access to the cable station and the SEA Cable System.

SEACOM will provide customers with access to the SEACOM network at the cable station or at a PoP in Johannesburg. Additionally, SEACOM will permit direct access within the cable station to any licensed or license-exempt operator with the right to co-locate and interconnect their equipment.Fees for co-location at the cable station are based on the cost of running the station

Come on -- all you newly ECNS licensed operators

ISP price cuts coming soon - 23rd November 2016

.....its inevitable lol

I don't understand. This sounds like good news to me. I'm sure I am not alone when I say that I plan on sticking with my Telkom ADSL rather than moving to another provider. I'm perfectly happy with both the price I pay and the quality of bandwidth I get. What I DON'T care for is the cap. SEACOM's introduction will force Telkom to improve their service, or else risk losing customers. They can only do that if they have more capacity, so if they get that from SEACOM, great, I couldn't care less.

Personally, what *I* am hoping from all this SEACOM stuff is that Telkom either drop the cap completely, or increase it to usable levels (eg. 50GB+). If they do that, they can keep charging me the same price. If they double my line speed in the process, even better.

Aw come off it... get real man!. Price drop in the current economic climate when everything is going up? Not likely!

The guys from MWEB also say they are actually INcreasing their prices....
(we were due to renew contract... me get glimmer in eye over SEACOM hype, I say, will prices come down after SEACOM? he say na-aa, prices likely to still up this year )....

grandpa said if it is too good to be true, it usually is....I suspect its going to be a case of initial hype, then big disapointment when prices dont drop and connectivity has problem and then over time in the bigger picture things improve. To view it as a saving grace is a bit overoptimistic id say :-)

Any way, what you save on connectivity, you are going to lose in rates and taxes.
