SEACOM construction finished!

OK now we an look at the actual problem that SA consumer is facing... How to deliver this service to the general population .... until such point when i can call a service provider and within 15 minutes of this call i can subscribe/switch/port and consume to whatever services they have to offer ... seacom will mean nothing in our lifes...

So LLU HAS to happen... else there is no way of delivering this massive international pipe to SA consumer..

Great news - I'm sure all the ISP's are watching each other very closely. Who'll be the first to take a chance and drop prices? Then we'll see a reaction from all the others.

Nah, already been decided...They all got together for lunch one afternoon and fixed the prices up for the next ten years.....:):)

Can everyone please help each other now. When an ISP drops his price, phone your ISP and demand to speak to the manager or someone high up. Threaten him that you will drop all your business at his ISP because ISP X reduced prices.

If the people high up running the ISPs keep hearing how they are losing customers because they are not price competitive they will have one option: Reduce prices.

This will obviously not work with corporate cancers like telscum, vodacrap, mweb and notel. But put pressure on the smaller ISPs lkike Axxes, WebAfrica, Cybersmart, Openweb, etc.

Help us help you :)

Great News! Well I guess if Neotel are testing users might experience higher speeds better latency etc.

Yip great news indeed, lets hope bw becomes much cheaper for all of south africa

Mmm, now I can begin to test my privately own fibre link to JHB from my house.:D

Who cares about the general population - I already have DSL and can switch ISPs in a heartbeat. Now who is going to offer the first great deal....?

As the Telkom ADSL metric results showed, the local infrastructure is still a bottleneck. I think we shouldn't expect significant speed/price improvements until the MTN/Neotel/Vodacom? local fibre network upgrade has been completed. Hope I'm wrong though...

To everyone involved with SEACOM. Congratulations on this important milestone. Well done for doing it ON TIME! You as a team can be justifiably very proud of yourselves.

The next 2 or so months are going to seem like forever...

ISP will benefit from this in time, acquire extra connection and testing will increase expenditure. As soon as they realize that the capacity and pricing is guaranteed, efficient and reliable they will start reducing their Telkom dependency. Only then might we see price drops.

So I expect another year of the same pricing before competition will have an effect.

It is good news but the wheel will take some time to turn.

I raise my glass to Seacom for a job well done, they are starting well and this bodes well for future telecoms in South Africa.

:)
