So what pricing reduction are we looking at, why is everyone so excited so you guys know something i don't other than seacom has arrived?

what does this mean for me though? I am also not so sure that seacom will have an affect on your 3g/hsdpa speeds.

Telkom lowered it's international wholesale pricing on SAT3/SAFE a few months ago to equal that of Seacom. It's been several *months* and we (the public) have seen didly squat happen.

Forgive me if I'm not too positive and **** you all for saying "oh another complainer who won't do anything about it"

yup... a friend of mine is high up @ MTNSP and they've been paying f-all for bandwidth for a while now. It just hasnt been passed onto consumers yet.

So all thats happened is that there is a wholesale price war, but consumers are still getting raped

I wonder if the pirates could hold the cable to ransom?

If they knew exactly where it was could they threaten to drag a line across it and damage it?

That sort of thing has got to be worth more than a ship ransom, and there is less risk because the authorities don't know where you will damage the cable.

Anyone have a link on how these things are laid, are they covered up on the seabed relatively fast, are they too deep? Is there a need to be concerned with this sort of thing?

Do not expect price cuts any time soon is the line from the major players. In English, this means "We still want more of your hard-earned money than we deserve."

One insider said we would have to wait for Eassy and Wacs before we see any dramatic price cuts. In English, that means "When Eassy and Wacs go live, we will think of another excuse not to drop prices."

Call me a pessimist but I'd say seeing is believing and I haven't seen anything!

Have they had a look at their SA subsidiary

Have they worked out why they DESTROY ALL EOL Cisco equipment during upgrade cycles instead of making these available to the "re-furb" market ( ie.making Cisco equipment affordable to "shack dwellers" )

Have they had a look at the Cisco Network Academy program in SA ( NO working academy in KZN last time I looked )

Have they had a look at SA price of setting up an "Academy"

Even with a 30% discount it will cost me over R2,000.00 to acquire the official Cisco Academy course books.

Do they know what it costs to acquire Cisco certification in SA

I'm very happy that Seacom is finally here and i do think they will live up to their promises, they handled the whole thing great. BUT lets switch focus 2 another area, line rental will still choke us dry what is it these days 4mb(line) R413 + R120 = R533pm OUCH even before you've purchaced any bandwidth what so ever. O dont forget the once off R543.91 installation cost if you're a new customer. If i was telkom i would bump up that line rental to astonomical amounts right about now.

Think if we're realistic about it, prices won't come down....maybe a leetle bit as an incentive to move your ISP.

But as I understand it, Seacom just splashed $600m and I think they want that money back ASAP.
