Seacom launch delayed

You guys really need to look at the sources of your data.

The pirates DID delay the cable. This was announced at a press conference a couple of months back. They thought they could make up the delays but it seems now that they were not able to.

But lets be realistic - a 4 weeks delay on a project of this size is quite normal. For Africa that is in fact very good :p

The cable is there - it has been laid. There are a number of journos who've seen it in person. It is currently being tested and there are a number of operators that are busy laying fibre to the landing station as we speak.

Why all the negativity??

You're right. This is africa, so 1st of November it is....

But we have known about this delay since April. Seacom published an article about it back then, but at first they said it was delayed until July 9th. so they delayed it another two weeks. No reason to throw your toys out of the cot.

All i am saying is that we are use to companies talking crap and deadlines not being delivered on, so this isn't a big surprise for anyone living in SA. How can you not be negative about this.

1st of November it is...

How do you get 1st November from 23 July?

Hey, I've got a great idea, let's all quit acting like little kids with dirty nappies :D .... let's be patient and enjoy it when it happens? anyone?

For a project like this to come in so close to schedule is really great. We have been talking about submarine cables for like 8 years now, and this is the only one to land in such a short time. Such a small delay is forgivable. I for one am not complaining.

+1000

4 weeks is nothing. In the meantime, go outside, play in a tree. Soon you will be stuck indoors downloading the entire Internet.

But of course its delayed. It was delayed the day they came up with the idea. We wont even benefit from this due to Telkom.

This is the biggest bs story. I read on the official seacom site a while ago that they had deployed the cable in the pirate infested water. This is obviously a lie and they have used a cover story to hide the fact that they arent ready yet. They said that they had begun the testing so this seems like a load of crap.

People are asking why the attitude? Do you guys not live in SA

Do you not think a country with 4 cell operators would have cheap calls? Yes in decent countries you get cheaper calls with more comp in this country they collude.

I am negative because i am realistic, neotel the saviors are now what? So why would i think seacom is going to make bandwidth cheap? it will make it cheap but we won't see anywhere to close to amount of savings you guys are getting all worked up over.

This place has become a chore to visit these days simply due to all the negative people hopping on the bandwagon complaining about X, Y and Z. :erm:

I love how all of a sudden a number of users are experts on the laying of submarine cables and seem to be insiders regarding launch dates etc.
