Seacom on track

Maybe government should start thinking of unloading some of their Telkom shares while they still have value. Unfortunately most ISPs are still reliant in them for connectivity within za but that too will be changing.

The SEACOM boss Brian Herlihy was interviewed (by phone) on ClassicFM last night (around 18.45). He affirmed that all was on track for a June 2009 delivery. He said they have about 30 people in the head-office working on SEACOM full-time, not counting the cable-laying contractors, suppliers, etc.

At one point he said words to this effect: From where I'm sitting here in New York I can see dozens of office building from my office window. The typical New York office building has 20-25Gb/s lines coming in, whereas South Africa currently has a tenth of that for the entire country.

This makes me so sick. See what happens when government gets involved in anything.
