I dropped my laptop
And now my Seagate Drive is ticking and making a beeping noise.
Momentus 320 gig.
Pleas please please there must be a way to get this working again?

Unfortunately not marine1. It's dead.

You are going to pay through your skull for data recovery and they might not even get anything off it.

You need a new hard drive and have it checked if something else isn't bust as well.

You will need to use data recovery specialists who need to open the drive in a clean room.

You would think in this day and age hard drives should be made better. I mean the drive was in a housing in the laptop
If resilience is important you should look at getting an SSD as a replacement. Hard drives fail - it's a matter of when, not if.

Or buy two new hdds and back up regularly.

You said it's clicking and beeping, but you can see one partition? If it's clicking it means you probably have head issues or damage to the platter itself. A soft beeping means a jammed motor. So you are able to see the drive in Windows/operating system, but not the data? If I understand what you're trying to say, it spins up and the drive is seen, but only an empty partition and it's clicking every now and then?

NB: The more times you power it on the more difficult/less likely recovery becomes.

Thanks guys so you really dont want to know what I did with the drive. Clearly I had a bad day after that and now the drive is in computer heaven. So long :(

I feel sad for you bro :(

Shame man. I'm sorry you lost the drive.

My condolences....

:)
