Hey guys
I read about the Seagte HDD issues, but I didn't think it would happen to me. (murphy's law :) anyhow, I started my pc this afternoon, only to get the message saying that I should insert a bootable device and then restart. Cheched the Bios, but my HDD doesn't appear there.

Is there perhaps a Seagate-Bios-flash that would be able to save me here?

Please guys, I would appreciate any help, as I am quite desperate, for I have a lot of important data on that drive!

*edit* I came across an .iso flash thing on Seagte's website ( http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207951&Hilite ). Is this save and would it maybe help?

Thanks in advance!

Regards

AFAIK, your hard drive is FuNked and you can get a swap out from the place you got it if it is still in warranty.

It's luckily still under warrenty. Will my data be revocerable though? :(

How much are we talking about? :( ai, I'm really really cheesed off at the moment! I did a freakkin firmware update, and I still get the freakkin failing drive! :(:(:(

Data recovery can cost up to R3500 and they destroy the drive, so no warranty swapout either.

I feel your pain, lost a 500GB Western Digital this week with lots of important information on it :(

Okay, I did some surfing and apparently you can still un-brick the drive by means of a bootable-cd-flash. However I get the error saying that the drive ain't "picked"-up when flashing, but this seems to be a common error amongst a few people. Everybody says that they managed to flash their drive to the new firmware, but I don't know what to believe now , and how to go about...

*edit* when trying to flash, I get the error saying: " Error: Specific model not found. ST3500320AS expected.

I did the first and the second update. Was able to recover some data but eventually swapped the drive because I couldn't get to all the data or format it either.

go into your bios, find the settings for the sata controller and set it to "legacy" or "ide", instead of advanced or raid or ahci which it is probably set to now. then the flash will work.

send R5 to a cancer charity if this post is helpful:-)

Sounds like either the wrong firmware or you have the drive set to the wrong mode. Set it to IDE or anything other than AHCI.

Basically set the SATA mode to anything other than AHCI.

I double (triple) checked the firmware... But I can't seem to find the SATA settings you guys are talking about... . I have an Asus M2N-MX SE Plus motherboard. But I'll continue searching!
Thanks for the replies guys!

*edit* Should I disable the SATA Devices Option in the IDE Configuration Menu perhaps?
In my SATA Sub-Menu I have:
LBA/Larage Mode Auto
Block(Multi-Sector Transfer) Auto
PIO Mode Auto
DMA Mode Auto
SMART Monitoring Auto
32bit Data Transfer Enabled

LBA/Larage Mode Auto
Block(Multi-Sector Transfer) Auto
PIO Mode Auto
DMA Mode Auto
SMART Monitoring Auto
32bit Data Transfer Enabled

Under "Advanced Settings" there should be an option for SATA mode or similar.

Advanced:
JumperFree Configuration
CPU Configuration
Chipset (North and Southbridge)
Onboard Devices Configuration
PCIPnP
USB Configuration

No SATA menu under above though...

*edit* Under Onboard Devices Configuration there's a Serial Port1 Address menu with funny numbers (like 3F8/IRQ4) in the sub-menu, but I doubt that it will be there?
Thanks!
