Seagate hybrid SSD/HDD

Just came across these advertised for sale here.....Is any one using one of these now & like/dislike.....great or a waste of $ or what??
My biggest concern for throwing it in a laptop is whether the branded bios will support it or not @ price of R1300.

256GB SSD for 7K? i ain't going there......:sick:
Guess those with 17" books have sometimes 2 drive bays which would allow 1x normal HDD storage + 1 x smaller SSD but i'm 15" book with only 1 bay.Think i read of guys modding the dvd bay to fit a SSD in there but that option doesn't really turn me on much.
 
Got one, there is a speed up but might be the jump from 5400 to 7200... will see how it is going after a week.
 
4GB is just not practical though? Most games today are way more that 4gigs, you can't put an OS on it, so you'll still have those limitations. Sure, your firefox, or office will run like mad, but seriously, is anyone complaining about the near 1 second open time of firefox atm ;).

If Seagate wants to be practical, then must roll out 16 gig minimum SSD, so your entire OS can run on it... and then you have normal space for everything else...
 
If you primarily game and watch movies on your machine, you won't notice it.
I've got one and I notice it mostly with boot up loading the task bar, opening Firefox, I wish I could just tell it which apps to keep in the SSD part.
Must say when I'm tweaking my system, I reboot alot and then open CPUz and temp apps and msi afterburn, they load almost instantly, which is quite nice.
 
Ordered one last week. Still early days yet but its nice seeing regularly used apps like Photoshop CS5 open in a matter of seconds.
 
Anandtech had a great review up and they love them. The way you tell it how to put apps on the flash os to use the app more often.
 
laptop is definitely quicker, compared it att work with a 13" macbook pro running the stnadard 5400 rpm drive... big difference in launch stuff like firefox mail and eclipse.
 
Sheesh. I was just replying to that post about where to get a good drive at a cheap price. I never said anything about using it in a laptop. You dudes with a chip on your shoulder need to chill.

Lol, a bit tense today? Some people are talking about laptops others desktop, just a bit of confusion, nothing more :D
 
For a PC, I'd rather buy the 60GB SSD and a 500GB HDD.
BUT think about, a 500GB HDD is what? R500 and less?
So you paying R800 extra for what? Well:
  • 4GB SSD
  • Less space (1 dive bay as opposes to 2?
  • An Algorithm (you could do the same thing on the 60GB just install the stuff commonly used on it)
  • less power

I planned to used this drive as the 500GB in my scenario and buy that 60GB SSD, But decided to wait till the end of the year for the new Intel range

Well cant really install all that in a 13" laptop....

I was raging because that happens to me so much, i.e. someone 'correcting' me or starting an argument when all I do is answer a straightforward question with a fact.

To be fair to phiber, you should have said desktop, since a laptop is a PC :P
