Secondhand golf equipment advice

I bought the Wilson D9 5 wood and 4 hybrid for R1999 each from here. Arrived on Tuesday.

Have to wait till tomorrow afternoon before I can smack proper golf balls with them.

I’ve broken a few plastic golf balls in the backyard with them so far.

So I have officially developed my first golf injury. Have been hitting on a kek rubber mat at home, getting a proper driving range mat next month but the impact of what I can only imagine to be more than 5k-10k swings in 2 months have caused an overuse injury to this specific spot getting it sorted at the physio now. Took a few pain killers to mask pain for the round on Saturday - bad idea as the pain was intensified on Sunday. Oh well ill take it easy the next few weeks in the Cape on holiday so will be forced to "chill" :)

Take your clubs with you. Some awesome courses in CPT

Since you're coming to the Cape.

Simonstown has a nice course, I play there a few times a year.

Usually book early on a weekends, there is pretty much always available times.
R200 for 18 holes.
I see Sunday has plenty of spots. So I'll probably go.

For short game, I go to Burgundy Mashie par 3 course once a week.
Longest shot is about 130 meters.

If you play like Steve Ballesteros you can try Brackenfell Mashie.

If you play like Tiger Woods
This will make you cry. Take lots of balls.

Pretty happy with the outcome MASSIVE improvement since my first round in Jan, with the injury thats almost better been really working on the iron muscle memory and its really paid off the distance is off about 10-20m as im not hitting 100% yet but the shots are beautifully straight. The lessons have made a world of difference and worth every cent.

The most strokes gained today were from putting the next part I gotta work on.

Also got a proper practice mat on Friday so helping alot with the practicing at home and getting in a bit of practice on most days.

Nothing scares your friends more than when you can pure an 80s blade :) will consider new blades when I break 90 but really becoming attached to these.

Search Temu for golf equipment. There are plenty of useful things there.

Thanks already got a putting green like that and I got a practice mat for my net now thats 2cm thick and heavier than I can carry by myself. So I can do loads of training at home at the moment, which is really showing helps between lessons too

Got a 5 hole green in the backyard in this section and adding 2 more on the front right. Just have to pick up the astroturf.

Thanks again all for the advice regarding lessons etc. I have started going to a few surrounding courses and playing 9 hole solo in the late afternoon.

Was at Irene yesterday - beautiful course and a older gentleman asked if he could join me I said sure but im only 4 months in he said not a problem by the end of the 8 (sun set so couldnt do 9) had an impromptu 4 ball and a few new contacts.

The practice/lessons have made a world of difference and im pretty comfortable now that im not "spoiling" the round for anyone. Its really great connecting with others and now really pushing me out of my introvert side.

My wife says Im an introvert with extrovert hobbies :P

due to the injury im taking it easy but my drives are absolutely on point around 200 I also know the stock yardages of most my irons and im becoming quite attached to this 50year old relics :P

I know my short game needs work but atleast getting to the green is easier now :) Also only one lost ball yesterday so less complaints.

Also decided to play the more forward tees im not trying to prove anything to anyone and not playing comps here to enjoy the game will move up later

Irene and Centurion are both great courses, Sucks that winter is coming but in summer you can also play a 9 before work. Much easier geting up for golf than work

Have been toying with the before work too as I work from home most days.

I thought Centurion was a super private course only for resident? Appears not to be the case? Irene is closer only a 10 min drive so thats nice :)

Your iron play seem to let you down. Maybe try more forgiving irons; as I seem to remember you play blades. Even if you borrow a set designed for higher handicap players I am sure your scores will be lower. One does not usually hit the driver that well (as you seem to do) and then battle so much with the irons. I guess many mishits cause the shots to go that 80 - 90 meters at a time.

Correct, the injury is still at play here impacts my iron shots more than my drives. As you may remember from a few posts back my irons were "deadly" IMO not pro std.

But "new" irons etc are def not off the table just want to finally rid this injury and play normally. I have toned down the practicing substantially to 5-10 min a day rather than nothing its not much but its enough so everything doenst feel outta whack

I have zero issues with playing more forgiving irons just wanna see where everything settles first.
