Managed to sneak in a 9 hole at waterkloof this afternoon some beautiful shots, some not so beautiful shots. Def need work on the short game, beautiful course and was nice playing this evning. can also see the impact on not mentally focusing.
All the practice/lessons and correcting iron lengths are paying off had an awesome round today at kimiad. As I said not best course in the world but was super last minute. First birdie was less than 20cm off from hole.
My iron accuracy has improved SOOOOO much or accuracy in general putting and chipping are now the focus areas.

I checked your score first and thought....damn, 81, what kind of lessons did you get.
Then I saw the par!
First birdie is amazing, less amazing is missing them, worse is missing an eagle opportunity, further worse is missing an eagle opportunity and 3 putting. I was fined heavily for that
refining the short game takes time, but will shave so much off your score

The focus is now shifting to short game, look only really been in this about 2 months so it's very very very early days.
I'm pretty comfortable with the irons I know they old but I'm really nailing the accuracy both on consistent distance and where I want the ball to go with them. there is something of a mind game when your friends underestimate your ability due to old clubs.
Then you nail a shot with 30 year old blades kekekekeke
I set a goal of not buying any equipment till I played 4 rounds. That's done now. I'm pretty comfortable with my 5-9 irons.
I can drive 220 to 270. But the gap between 150-220 is missing. The old irons are killer on the 3 and 4 iron. Not comfortable with them at all. Think I might look at something like a hybrid or 3-5 wood.
Might also be time to get a new driver the one I'm using was a 200 rand bargain bin one likely 20 odd years old.
Dont mind secondhand at all.
Budget isn't much of an issue was more to wait and see where I needed something. If that makes sense.

Golf is more than 50% played with the stuff beteen your ears. Read the book "The inner game of golf" by W Timothy Gallwey. Much of the mental things translate automatically into better shot making.

Yesterday was awesome!
Hit Waterkloof today and was just off.
I have a feeling I'm rushing off and not warming up properly, not stretching etc yestdat I did all that and went beautifully. Live and learn. Heck only 6th time of the course. If you learn one new thing every time it all adds up.
Still a beautiful afternoon tho!
I am fortunate enough that I can drive some par 4's on certain courses, if I get a hole in one, that would not be a bad way to get it.
I often find when I am playing badly, its the basics. Swinging too fast, not relaxing, not watching the ball.

A while back the bug bit in my early 30s, and for about 5 years it was an endless money pit with equipment, membership fees, course fees etc.
Then my kid came along and I had no time. Had a fairly decent Taylormade set that I paid close to R30k for that I offered to a mate, would have gladly let it go for next to nothing if you asked back then...

Similar journey my side. My kid got a little older, some friday afternoons she would come with and "drive" the cart and we would do 9 holes.
Now that she is a bit older I am getting back into it, its such a nice walk, but I generally try tee off first thing, i skip the whole drinks / pub thing after, usually home before 11am
So first official golf purchase.
Decided the driver was the first thing to get.
Got myself a Taylormade M1 2017.
This thing is a mega upgrade from the 20-25 year old no name thingy I had. Which if you didn't hit dead Centre could ark 45deg.
Took it to the driving range this evening and every shot was beautiful.
Sooo looking forward to giving this thing a shot on the course.

So I have officially developed my first golf injury. Have been hitting on a kek rubber mat at home, getting a proper driving range mat next month but the impact of what I can only imagine to be more than 5k-10k swings in 2 months have caused an overuse injury to this specific spot getting it sorted at the physio now. Took a few pain killers to mask pain for the round on Saturday - bad idea as the pain was intensified on Sunday. Oh well ill take it easy the next few weeks in the Cape on holiday so will be forced to "chill"
