Hi
Recently I had my car broken into. They "snapped" the drivers door key hole. I don't know how to explain it better. They took a screwdriver (something flat) and forcefully turned it to unlock the car. Factory fitted alarm did not sound.

They stole all the contents of the car. Didn't take the car, probably because it's auto.

I have orderd a replacement part (take forever, comes from Germany, someone's walking with it!)

I want to know how to prevent something like this from happening again.

Thanks in advance.
Stay safe!

Should ask VW why the alarm didn't sound as they didn't press the button.

No way to prevent this, but it is possible to mitigate, don't leave valuables inside car.

I had a Vivo for 2years, never heard its alarm.

Anyway, apparently it isn't that hard to break the locks on them, best thing is simply to not keep any valuables in plain sight.

That goes for any car. I know someone who's Renault Captur was broke into from the rear window, and they took her laptop.

If they want to get in they'll make a way whether its a Citi Golf or a Range Rover.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have learnt the hard way.
I am definitely going to take this up with VW.

Question remains .. did you leave your items in plain sight so everybody could see ?

No. Had my bags in the boot. Just a jacket in the back seat. Parked on a busy Street, lots of pedestrian traffic.

The alarm allows you to unlock the door with the key (or force the lock open) and start the car with a valid key within 30 seconds before sounding. They removed the fuse for the horn in those 30 seconds, which is why you didn't hear the alarm.

I'm speaking under correction, but it might be possible for VW to remove that delay for you.

Yes, best the moon.

The rate of vehicle theft is the UK is about 5 time more than in SA last time I looked at the figures (56 000pa vs 350 000pa).

Population of UK is 11 million more people than that of S.A. There are also about 34.5 million vehicles on UK roads vs less than 12 million in S.A

Seems like Vivos are the most popular car for thieves here. There have been several Vivos stolen from complexes in my area just this year. Just Vivos going and nothing else. Probably easy to strip/sell fast.
