I understand what you are saying but we did in the end pay his salary so yes this is out of his pocket but it came from the taxpayer in the first place. Or do I have the cat at the wrong end? Or is he paying this with the "corruption" money? prbably the last one.
 
Should have been more. I'd regard corruption of a government official as treason and life in prison, all assets donated to charities.

That is the problem... Every lawyer knows how to stall and defeat the legal process. First its the appeal, then its the 'Extension' to the appeal, then the case goes to court and is then 'thrown out due to irregularities' .. this cycle takes a few years - eventually there will be a 'Selebi-Secret Recording' which will show he was setup (of which NO-ONE in the public will ever hear the contents of). the lawyer will be marked as a 'Counter revolutionary' and the new Judges in the case would have been appointed by the State. (Go look at the portfolio of the high court and tell me how many are not affiliated to the ANC - and will do EXACTLY as they are told)

You might live in this utopian world that 'Law is infallible' - but in reality, its not right from wrong - its who can throw the most CASH at the problem. Maybe I would prefer he was aquitted, it will save the Taxpayer a ton of cash fighting a battle that the outcome has already been decided

The right to appeal (or at least to ask for leave to appeal) and the entire appeal procedure is a Constitutional right for all citizens. Even you have that right!

The test of fairness is if we allow those same human rights to people we may not necessarily like or whose deeds we do not approve of .....
 
That sentence is going to be the longest 2 weeks of his life!

UPDATE: The State will be selling some of his assets to recover the R230-odd thousand. Thereafter he must settle all the legal bills (including that of the state).

Its not my fault you live in a rose tinted garden where faeries and pixies all abide by the law. If you dont think CASH can buy outcomes, then you my friend are really a rare and deluded individual.

I want you to substantiate these bits of your statement. The only judge I know of who openly supports the ANC (actually supports Zuma) is John Hlophe and even he's just pulling the race card to get ahead.

With enough appeals it will end up in the Constitutional Court.... you cannot possibly tell me that 90% of the below names are not affiliated or card carrying members of the ANC. This has nothing to do with zuma, its loyalty to the 'Struggle' and the ANC Executive. (Zuma is just a pawn in their scheme)

The people you list above are known to have opposed apartheid as the ANC did. That does not make them members or affiliates of the ANC. Most of this country was in opposition of apartheid and
maybe that includes you (does that make you a card carrying member of the ANC?). You either supported what the Nat monsters were doing or opposed it and you didn't need to be a member of the ANC to be in opposition. By your logic Helen Zille and Suzman are card carrying members of the ANC to name but just two.

Try another tack, this one won't fly my friend.
