But I don't really see the point of keeping him in prison if he is already over 70 (terminal or not).

I thought medical parole is decided on the medical facts alone; not the consent of the victim's family ??!

Medical parole does not take into account the reason for incarceration nor does it require the relatives of any victim to be consulted.

He will probably be killed the moment he steps out of jail anyway.

The Shabir case was a jailbreak and we know how Balfour got rewarded for that.

I think the fact that he is high profile and could afford the advice means he could get out. Remember, the rules were changed after the Shaik "official" jailbreak, so even if they gave him special consideration they'd have made sure it can stand up to scrutiny.

Certainly not a cash issue. Plenty of wealthy people have made their way behind bars. No it simply isn't money that gets you out. Awful mindset to have about the situation though - it should never be about who can or can't afford a lawyer. And if memory serves correct, you don't need someone else to apply on your behalf. You can do it yourself...

Shabby is actually pushing for a full presidential pardon.

Sure. To be frank, there is no point in arguing about this. What we need is a few weeks to see if Selebi is still alive and then get back to this thread.

Personally, I believe that Selebi got out Shabby Schaik style. As we can see from the applications, applicants need to be on their death-bed (like the three who died awaiting paperwork). So in a few weeks if this schit-head is still stealing freedom air, I'm sure we can all agree that this is just another notch in the ANC's corruption-buckle...
