Selecting gears

My Corsa lite 1.4 model 2004 is struggling to select gears. This started when a bad mechanic replaced a clutch kit. Some people say gearbox oil needs to be filled or changed and some say it's linkages.

Any advice?

No real answer here until a proper mechanic takes that new clutch kit out and analyzes it. There are just too many variables right now to point to a single thing that is giving the problem. It might even be the wrong part number clutch kit. Good Luck

Can you select gears with the car off?

How does the gear lever feel like when you try to change gears, hard as if there's something blocking it or soft as if there's something missing tat was supposed to lock it in gear?

Is it all the gears or can you get some gears and not others?

Go full speed in 5th gear then ram it into R for racing.
Seriously your clutch is wrecked, take it to a proper spanner swinger.

If you think its expensive to hire a good mechanic, wait till you hire an amateur mechanic....

No way to tell without a strip down again. Follow the advice about changing gears with the car off. No foot on the clutch and foot on the clutch. That will normally isolate the problem to the clutch or the gearbox.
