HI Guys,
Not sure if anyone can advise me on my issue. I'm driving a polo vivo 1.6 gt. I had some overheating issues which i now replaced the thermostat which is now fixed the issue. but now taking it from the mechanic the 3rd gear does not go in smoothly note that i had no issues with the gears at first just after i took it there now the 3rd gear does not go in smoothly you kind of really need to click it in while driving. Went back to the mechanic apparently there words was the cable was stuck they apparently fixed it and tested drive the car and now telling me the clutch is slipping which does not even feel like its slipping. my thing is it could just be a coincidence that now the 3rd gear does not go smoothly or did this mechanics perhaps touch something now its all of a sudden giving issues with the gear

clutch cable stretched?
or gearbox/Engine mountings worn out?

had something similar and as it gradually got worse, eventually we found the entire engine/Gearbox mounting bolt broke loose,
cars these days will gradually tell you something isn't right, and I remember 5th gear wouldn't go in, same symptoms, with effort it would go in,
but it gradually got worse and worse.

checked cables ect ect, until one day the entire thing broke, and root cause was identified.
luckily a bush mechanic was able to extract the broken bolt smoothly, and put in another one, that so far holding up.

Get another mechanic. If the clutch slips you will feelnit on pull away not when going to 3rd gear.

Strange that it is only 3rd gear  Linkages, although I think yours has a cable shift gearbox, would mean getting two gears and not others while a clutch issue would affect ALL gears.

yes the gears was 100 before i took it there just after i got it back the 3rd gear seems to be a struggle but all other gears are fine. took it back and the guys says the cable under where they replaced the thermostat was some how stuck and he made sure its right again but now he saying it seems the clutch it slipping but when you pull away the car moves and does not seem signs of slipping il have to get another mechanic to check it. these mechanics take all our money and to find out its not the issue

Do you still have the issue with 3rd gear after he 'fixed' the cable? There are ways you can test if the clutch is slipping, it won't always present in 1st gear when pulling away. While at 'speed' put the car in 4th gear, 3rd works but maybe not for you, push the clutch in and then release which should make engine rpm increase and then drop momentarily, if it doesn't your clutch may be slipping. You can also watch car speed versus engine speed, if you aren't going any faster while accelerating and the engine rpm is increasing, your clutch may be slipping.

There's no cable shift box. The cable is just for the clutch.

Guy told me one day his car will not go into reverse. open the hood, there was a plastic cover blocking the link, pick it up, it was his oil filler cap.

It still uses a cable for the clutch?

Both the 9n3 and 6R Polo's which the Vivo's were based on had hydraulic clutch's and cable shift gearbox's, I would be surprised if VWSA went backwards with these to the cable operated clutch and gear linkages like they kept in the CitiGolf which the Vivo replaced. I may be wrong though...

I would also be, re-engineering the whole thing to put in a cable is more cumbersome than just leaving the hydraulic system as it is, so it can't even be justified in terms of cost cutting.

Rev the tits off of second and go straight to fourth. What's the problem here?
