Well i know some people with an self-installation get theirs done in month or less, but not mine!

3 weeks ago I aplied for an self-installation and all.
Today they phoned me telling me someone will phone me in 15 WORKING days to give me a date on when it will be done!

So I am looking at more than 6 weeks just to get an INSTALLATION DATE!

Reality

Self installation is not a joke - it saves you hard cash and it works.

Delays in getting the service going - this is another question altogether.

Keeping it going to spec is also an entertaining exercise if you are into masochism.

Good luck for when it happens.

Refering to the installation delays with self installation.

I already picked up the modem but it's quite irritating when the DSL LINK only flashes. :(

Ordered from Telkom shop last Monday evening 8pm. Was informed on Tuesday at 10AM that I can collect my router. Struggled to find a Telkom shop with stock. Eventually found one on Saturday. Plugged in on Sunday morning, verified and all's working fine...

In other words, self-installs do work. I guess it just depends on the area you're in.

My entire self install process from ordering to having all devices (wireless included) online took a sum total of 3 working days. It does work, I suppose it just comes down to the area you are in.

I'm one of the unlucky ones - applied for self-installation on 8 Feb. Still waiting for a port allocation and installation date.

Self Installs

I would love to do a self install, nothing would give me greater pleasure and satisfaction!
Im unfortunate enough to be in possesion of an IDSN box, which as u know, puts a REALLY big spanner in the works and self install is no longer an option.

Typical Telkom  , lets see, I was informed that on th 27th of Feb a techie would make his merry way to install my ADSL.
Cleared my day, made sure i was hear, cause need to make sure he puts in ok (we have an indoor extension, one line upstairs and one doewn, so he must f:mad:ck it up), and needless to say im still waiting.
I was promised a techie to contact me, with 48-72 hours last wed when I phoned. I phoned on Monday, and they are "pushing it through" and again today.
What amazes me is they all sounded sooooo shocked that no one came on the 27th, and no-one phoned me.

Thank heavens that the call centre is a free call... i spent over 1 and ahalf hours in total ON HOLD the one day.

I dont understand why some areas take so long? It was verified that it is self-install ready. What could take so long?

Speedster - What area are you?

DATE!

Well give them some hellopeter and by Icasa law installation must be with in 30 days. Self install or not

I tried the hellopeter option - not too much response...

What do you mean "by Icasa law"?

According to ICASA's ADSL regulations installation should be done within 30 days.

Today is exactly one month 8 Feb - 8 March (so that makes it 28 days)

And what are my options if they don't? Do I report them somewhere?
Do I qualify for 6 months free line rental?

You could try reporting them to ICASA, not sure how far you'll get though.

That's exactly the point kiepie. ICASA have these regulations but Telkom just wipe their asses off with it and do their own thing. There should be some penatly if they don't deliver in time. If my pizza is late, it's free. If Telkom is late I still pay way too much...

If you want an Hawianan pizza you could phone 4 pizza places and they will come and deliver - competition our friend

If you want a broadband connection line (where you can have an independant isp that offers uncapped) you only can go to one place - telkom

My complaint on Hellopeter was so bad peter removed it
Just shows you what happens if telkom moves from Not responding to peter's wallet
hellopeter link
