Pattern Matched Technologies (Pty) Ltd as an award winning WASP (Wireless Application Service Provider), telecommunications and Fintech development house, based in Midrand just off New Road, is seeking to appoint a mid- senior IT Linux Engineer responsible for the day-to-day management of the IT operations and infrastructure.
The salary range for this position is R480k - R840k annual package.
Job description
Linux/ Unix system administrator that will manage multiple Solaris/ Unix servers both physical and inside of AWS.
Monitor system health and reliability to support uptime goal of 99.9%
Primary Duties:
- Maintain current and new network and system configuration.
- Continually improve the system standards and documentation already in place.
- Keep evolving the human intervention required by automating through scripting or systems like Salt/ Chef.
- Ensure support is given through to various system levels.
- Maintaining and improving a high level of security.
- Ensure that sufficient software fixes are applied.
- Continues monitoring through existing capacity tools, as well as optimisation of current resource sets.
Requirements:
- Strong Linux/ Solaris skills are desired.
- Strong understanding of shell scripting.
- Unix/ Linux system administration (Ubuntu/Solaris, MySQL, PostreSQL, Bash, Python),
- Ability to work both independently as well as on teams
Beneficial:
- A tertiary Engineering or Computer Science degree is preferred.
- Expertise in High-Availability, Enterprise Systems (Dependability, Performance, Security, Endurability)
- Expertise in Linux/GNU Operations, Administration, Security/Integrity, Troubleshooting, Optimisation
- Knowledge and experience of technologies such as Docker, Chef, VMware, Salt.
- Knowledge and experience of data centre technologies such as Firewalls, Routers, Load Balancers, etc
