Sensitive Stomach Thread

I went on the diet and lost 8kgs in two weeks and got way better. Then Christmas came, and I went crazy :(

I am honestly wondering whether my stomach has something to do with my weight...

So how long have you been on the diet and how much better is your stomach weight loss aside?

I went through a phase of about 5 years where I'd get random diarrhoea (could not find a culprit). The my doctor diagnosed me with reflux, so I started taking Nexiam and eating less spicy food. That helped somewhat. Then last year I lost 14 kg through eating low GI, exercise and taking capsules for my insulin resistance (oh, old age...). My stomach has been much, much better, probably because I avoid sugar, fat and alcohol.
About a month ago I overindulged in several slices of garlic bread dripping in butter, and my stomach reminded me strongly of the problems I had almost forgotten about.

Main culprits: Coffee (aka pouring petrol on a fire), rich food (especially pastas with rich sauces), boerewors rolls

Main remedies:
Ginger (e.g. Lemon & Ginger tea, or adding fresh ginger to rooibos tea)
Weleda Digestodoron (I believe its basically probiotics)
Mag phos (tissue salt no 8) for cramps

Several years of working in the health section of a pharmacy as a student might have skewed my choiced slightly...

*Digs up the ancient*

Well, here I sit, sick stomach again and I have barely eaten at all today. I haven't eaten anything today that I don't eat regularly with no bad side effects. Yesterday, however, I had a bit of desert (apple cake and cream), but it was my farewell so I think I can be forgiven. Anyhow, I had a bit of an upset stomach last night (which I pretty much expected), however this evening, out of the blue, my stomach decided to hate me - it was pretty bad. Still sitting here, pensive about going to bed as I am not sure whether I will need to go again...

Clearly my statement about it being my weight is wrong; I have lost 15kgs and it is still just as bad :(

I honestly give up. I don't know how I am going to survive in Dubai with my stomach like this.

I got put on Probiotics. During episodes I take buscopan for the cramps and some form of immodium derivitive to stop the runs. Dont laugh but hemroid cream helps for the burn.

Besides the fact that most "super-glue" contains cyanide it will probably solve the runs problem to

:(
Basically, this makes my life suck. How do the rest of you with sensitive stomachs deal with it?

I know what you mean although I don't have it nearly as bad as you. In general I am very wary of what I put in my mouth. I watch expiry dates and so forth and I observe the cleanilness of restaurants. In my case, sour milk or milk that's busy going off, produces unpleasant results within 15 minutes.

Yeah Dubai heat and a messed up stomach

This sparked my interest since I wasn't getting better on the diet. I didn't get in the end but perhaps you'd be interested.

Looks a little dodge but his story made some good points

Sorry, but this is more of an "oh God I need a support group to help me get through this horror" thread than a "let's gross everyone out" thread :(

***DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU ARE EATING***

Thank you for the warning! I stopped at this post!!!

At this rate Kasyx, you'll be on a diet of fennel tea and peppermint chewing gum - good luck...:D

Chewing gum can make it worse ;) you keep on chewing and your stomach expects food to enter and produces acids etc. Not what someone would want.

Also, if you've ever in the past used these Aquafresh gums or any teeth brushing replacement gum, stop with it immediately. Read the warning on the packaging, it's not meant for prolonged use and it will cause your stomach to do very strange things.

Sounds to me like you need to go on a detox coupled with a colon cleanse. Perhaps you should go see Dr Danny Pillay, he is a top homeopathic doctor in the Sandton area. The procedure is a week long marathon of eating nothing but a liquid broth and probiotics. 75 litres of water is then pumped up your anus and through your intestines over a 1 hour period, for 5 days. This enema removes the colon plague on the wall of your intestines.

Once complete you should feel significantly better. The ritual should be followed with a healthy diet comprising fresh vegetables, fruit and nuts, legumes, lentils and all things raw and vegetarian. Meat in small quantities if not at all....

There is a show on reality tv called spa of embarrassing illnesses which accurately outlines how this method works in curing patients of most ailments...

Ginseng tea for the stomach, a liver tonic to help restore your liver, (the stomach and liver are linked), and dab some milk on the paper before wiping , helps with the burn, the same way milk helps reduce the burn in the mouth from hot food.

Is anyone going to put this all together into a single post for Kasyx? That way Kasyx can just lump all the ingredients into a pot, simmer for a few minutes and hope for the best.

Dear Kasyx, please do not add the milk-soaked toilet paper to the pot...

A prescription medicine call Colofac - helps a lot. Ask you doctor about it.

mmm... lots of medicine to treat the symptoms but none that cure the illness... and that in a nut shell is the problem with medicine the way it's practiced in the capitalist west
