The modem will set you back about two grand. Half a gig cap is R299/month. Three gig is R599/month.

The limit on iBurst is a hard limit. You get cut off in mid download. And then you can't even get back in that confirm that you habe been capped. But the speed is pretty good while the cap lasts.

On our 2 smallest packages, you will be cut off from the internet once have have reached your cap, but you do have the option to top up before you get cut off.
From the 1 gig package, your speed will slow down to a dial up (64kbps), but you will be able to top up or connect at a slow speed.

This seems to me like a solution. The package is a 1 Gb cap, dropping speed when passed. Speed tests on Sentech in the past shown the my connection was sometimes like a 28.8 KB dialup connection.
To my knowledge. iBurst also have a wider coverage than Sentech. My problem is I use about 6-7 Gb a month. That is web browsing to getting my mail. At night I'm on chat rooms that required not that much speed. It's capacity that gets me.

Staying with Sentech my cost would increase from R499 to over R1000. A increase I can justify. If Sentech has a problem with a small group, logic dictates addressing that group. It really start to let you wonder about their capacity when dealing with problems. What would happen if they get a problem with their flexy product? Dump those clients also?

ADSL would not work for me as there is a problem with copper in my aria, according to Telkom. For a place so close to Johannesburg that in it self is amazing. ADSL drop international connection when going over the cap but allows local connection.

What now with all the Sentech equipment I bought. Time for the bin to get used. Modem, Extra aerial and LAN cable. I can only imagine how many customers Sentech is loosing over this.

Some rivals/ISP's informed me that Sentech is gearing for the 2010 soccer, having apparently win a contract there. So are they trying to make money for that time, or clear their networks for that time. How true it is I can only guess.

Victor, or anyoine, is ADSL now definatley uncapped for local after your cap?

I know this is meant to be implemented by ICASA's ruling, but I havent heard much about it. Has it come into effect yet, or are you just reffering to IS ADSL.

Well as a solution, what is wrong with Iburst, you say you dont need much speed and that Sentech was often slower than 64kb, so why not use the 1G option.
Or get the 6G option for about R400 more and use that, then you should only get capped around the end of the month which is great, because you can just download flat out for the last few days if you need to.

My understanding from a Telkom rep at Menlyn is that when exceding cap you can still work locally. This is the same info I had 2 year ago about ADSL and seen working. The cap is used for local and international only after it's exceeded it is the international blocked. This is the reason why people uses remote South African proxies to be able to continue working international.

I meant the for me the iBurst's 1Gb would be my solution. I will be switching to it rather than trying Sentech's flexy plan. According to me that is more expensive compaired to coverage. 3G I believe is about the same price yet it's nearly anywhere you have cell signal. It seems rather Sentech is trying to duplicate 3G's prices and solution without the coverage.
My biggest problem is cost. I need to stay cheap but want internet always. My problem is with paying per Mb used after the cap is reached. Rather either slow down as with iBurst or cut it. The fun of a tight budget. The internet is for home use/fun. It does not make me money so I see no point in hurting myself to have internet.

Speed is nice as always. But what would you rather have? A cheap internet that is slow but have a big cap or no cap. Or a fast internet connection that the cap would not last two weeks and after that you have to pay in. Or having to pay a lot of money for a big cap on the thought that you might need it this month, maybe. As stated prior, I need capacity rather than speed. As most of my stuff is over seas the ADSL cap would also impede me. That is if ADSL would work in my aria.
