Hi Some Steps that may help! It’s very limited so just look into them a bit more.
Step 1 - Your Site is it optimised?
Are your keywords and descriptions correct?
Do you have errors on the pages, Missing links, Tags that don't conform to standards?
Do you have relevant information on the page?
Step 2 - Statistical analysis
Almost all hosting companies have a stats page in the control panel, these stats can tell you allot about your current visitors and can tell you where your visitors are being referred from this is important.
Install Google Analytics this does the same thing but is far easier to read and gives you some interesting statistics about your visitors.
Set up Google Webmaster tools. These tools allow you to see your ranking and the keywords you are using. The tool also shows you errors and allows you to set parameters on how often Google bot should visit your site and what files to exclude from your site, there is no point in Google or other search engines to index pages that are in your admin directory for instance.
There is no way i could impart enough knowledge about statistic in a short comment like this but statistics here is your friend.
I mentioned in step one that you can choose your keywords and meta-tags. Believe it or not I did not mean rack your brain to come up with something you have in your mind, remember different people may call an item by a different name, especially if you targeting traffic internationally. What you need to do is use your friends (statistics) don’t choose a word that 50 million other sites have done some research find different terms for the same keyword. If I was marketing one of my medical sites I would not just use the title Medical because I would be drowned by competition, choose words that generally have between 500 and 2000 Searches a day. You can get many applications and even plug-ins for Firefox that can access the Google Data API. Although we can talk about many other statistics that Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and others offer. I think for a beginner it can be confusing. In a nutshell here we are not just building a website and searching for visitors but rather we are following the visitor’s trends and adjusting our content and site to draw them in.
Step 3 - Back-links
Back-links, Back-links, and well more back-links! As in previous posts people have mentioned these back-links are important for PR- Page Rank. Although page rank itself is pretty meaningless you can have a PR 0 site with a few hundred thousand Visitors a month. It does help for a general increase in Visitors, and is probably used more if you want to moneterise you site. Still back-links serve more than just PR, they encourage visitors from referrals.
Its very important to try not waste your time putting your link on dissimilar sites if you looking for referrals.
Back-links can come from, Social bookmarking Sites, Forums, Web 2 profiles, Blog-rolls, syndicated articles, press-releases, Directories, and a host of other types of sites. Comment on other peoples blogs and invite them to your blog, if you dealing with a blog.
Open a twitter account, put your web address in your bio, Remember the term Do-follow this is important, you want your links to be Links not just words on a page.
Again the tie-in, Choose your title, and keywords carefully. Create 3 different sets if you can. It takes some testing before you find your niche.
Step 4 - Advertise
It’s free to make a profile or group on facebook, use it! Paid advertising such as Ad words, or other PPC advertising is cost effective be careful thousands of people throw good money away for nothing, Choose your catch Phrase carefully.
Local marketing online marketing whatever gets your web address out there
