Hi everyone

Just signed up, but have been a frequent reader for quite some time. So anyway…

Seriously, what’s up with Telkom as an ISP these days? I’ve been on Telkom for about 3 years now and I’ve never seen such disgusting speeds. For the last few weeks sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are generally slow. And it especially becomes bad when I try to watch or download videos from both Facebook and YouTube (even at just 240p!!). Now I don’t usually watch many videos considering my connection speed (384kbps) but usually when I did I got very good speeds (constant 41KBps). Nowadays it jumps around, sometimes going as low as 4KBps and never higher than 28KBps. I can download torrents faster than that!! Other international HTTP downloads are normal (about 40KBps) but any video streaming needs to be forgotten about. The Speedtests I’ve run over the last few weeks have shown some concerning speeds (usually 10KBps, both ways – international and local. Pings at about 400 international, and about 100 local).

I’m in Bloemfontein by the way, and it’s not my PC or anything. Tested this on two PCs as well as an Android with WI-FI. Line statistics are all very good, and line never drops.

So… anyone else experiencing this?

Agreed, for me beginiing of the month is ok,after a week or so i seem to be throttled or shaped, everybody says telkom don't do that but im almost certain its not a congested exchange because it's too consistent, 6am speeds drop from 40kB/s to 30kB/s, then from 8am - 10pm i'm stuck with ****ing 15kB/s. Right now i'm getting dl speeds of 5kb/s. Obviously i'm getting throttled after reaching a certain amount of data. I have 0 problems with any other accounts only this rubbish telkom. If it was a congested exchange surely it wouldn't be this consistent every single day. My speedtest results are the same 10Kbps both ways. After 10pm it might go to 20.

Yip,10pm on the dot my speeds have jumped to 40kB/s.

Edit: nevermind dropped back down to 5.

Strange, we can't be the only ones. Although my bad speeds seem to be specifically tied to sites running on Alkami. YouTube, Facebook etc. and their local mirrors may be under some stress, and if so, I'm sure others would have experienced the same thing. Curious...
