Great, thank you for the responses. I'll start out with Afrihost uncapped 2MB and see how that fares. Afriman suggested that I get a capped account instead?

Thanks for the graph too, I guess I'll have to settle for SD if I choose a slower connection. If data prices go down at the beginning of 2014 then I'll be in a position to get a faster connection.

@Sauronza, when I did my initial shopping, the biggest smart TV I came across was 40" wide, clearly I missed the Samsung PS51F5500 which looks like a good buy, thanks @Soul Assassin.

2mb is way too slow :(

Get XBMC media player. Its probably the most versatile media player on the market.

My 2Mb Openweb and telkom account both streamed well. I did avoid HD though. Only thing is if you share the account, you will have trouble.

Yeah. I share my account with my wife and she is like and Internet blackhole. Our main TV is almost always streaming something (high quality). Right now my wife is watching something on her tablet (streaming) and I am gaming. The 10MB is able to handle two video streams at the same time while not increasing my local or international latency (which would impact gaming and voip).

When I use 4mb adsl at my work (thanks Telkom) I get frustrated. I couldnt imagine doing this on anything less than that.

Sorry to wade in at this late stage ... so you buy the roku (once off purchase) plug it into your "dumb" tv and presumably connect either via ethernet or wirelessly to existing adsl router. Then what? Do you pay monthly for netflix, hulu or that other service - unotelly???? Can't remember what it's called or how much it is?

Is it necessary to hide that we're in SA?

Thank you

fortunately i already live at a london post office :D :D

tks for the info

Netflix is even easier than Hulu. You can use your SA credit card.

Unotelly is used to hide your region. What's awesome about it though is that it lets you choose your region. So you can watch things from different Netflix regions.
