I recognise that the growth of gaming is directly related to the growth of broadband. But because of our situation, its difficult for us to allow as much of an open ended communication as a perfect world could grant (read: Telkom have SGS by the balls and I don't particularly feel like being turned into a soprano).

Thanks.

Do you want SGS to close down?
Because if it closes down you won’t exactly have a SGS forum to chat on about anything
http://forums.prophecy.co.za/
http://www.unreal.co.za/
etc.

Neither will you have all the game servers to play on.
Also debatable..

Point is, there is far too much censorship on SGS and this creates a problematic dynamic - where you have rules, people will try to break them. Making more rules makes people more frustrated, and makes them break more rules. Where you have hierachy, you have people decieving each other to climb the ladder.

"We should not be building surveillance technology into standards. Law enforcement was not supposed to be easy. Where it is easy, it's called a police state." -- Jeff Schiller 99.10.12

You said "please stop posting on the Cele incident" they've said "Please stop posting about Telkom and other gaming Boards".

As for the Cele incident and my post regarding that, it was personaly orriented. Perhaps you didnt know about the legal threats being thrown around behind the scenes, as well as the pages of text per-second flying by in #myadsl about the subject in a complete circular loop. It *was* answered, and it was not a support of the thread deletion; in fact, I kept an archive backup on my site and spoke to some of the mods privatly about my disagreement with the threads being deleted.

What if :

Telkom (ISP), (or any ISP for that matter, I'm just thinking about the SGS future here) announces a special add-on gaming package effective from Nov 1, "showing their support for the local gaming market", consisting of the following :

VPN connection (or similiar) to SGS server(s) ONLY
Unlimited traffic/gaming over the VPN
for let's say R200 (just a number)

How many would buy ? This is in addition to a standard 1/2/3/x GB account at whatever ISP you use.

The thing is - its pretty clear to see why SGS has to take the stance of not allowing Telkom bashing to take place on its forum.

All thats needed is a little common sense and restraint. Sadly both of these are often lacking. (That said the majority of SGS users seem to get by just fine posting here about Telkom rather than on SGS)

Point is, there is far too much censorship on SGS and this creates a problematic dynamic

I agree that it creates a problematic dynamic, but I think the censorship is justified. The service SGS provides is of a very high standard generally - I for one wouldn't want them to disappear because of people biting the hand that feeds them.

Please don't mistakenly think this means I support Telkom somehow; I hate them at least as passionately as everyone else here.

Edit: Hate the way they do business would be a better way of putting it.

I said you won’t have a “SGS” forum to chat about anything.

You are welcome to post anywhere else
For instance you can post your view on Telkom here on these forums. Which is what Vie said aswell

Currently you can post on the SGS forums about allot of gaming issues
But not Telkom

If they allow you to post about Telkom then soon you (and everyone else) won’t be able to post on the SGS forums about anything
Since the forums won’t exist.

Now if you are cool with there being no SGS servers then I’m happy for you.

But then why does it bother you that they enforce their own rules?
Since you don’t want SGS to exist why complain about it

No one is forcing you to post your “oppressed” views there
You can come here and post totally without oppression.
Hell no one is even forcing you to read what other “oppressed” PPL posted on SGS.

As for the other gaming servers that works as well as the Telkom ones.

Please set them up and I’m sure you will get all the people you want to play with you

Telkom censorship is but one small drop in the SGS ocean - take a look at the full "rules" and see what I mean.

As the creators of the site and the suppliers of the service I reckon they can have whatever they feel like in their rules and regs. If everyone felt so strongly about it - no-one would join yet they have a couple of thousand members what don't really give a crap about what happens on the backend as long as they get to login when they get home at night.

I reckon what we have here is an "unsettelable difference of opinions"..

I wouild like to point out that nobody that donated the the "War chest" got suckered. It was the people who donated to Cele that did. Unfortunately, a couple of people asked for their own donations to be transfered from the "War chest" to Cele, which is their right, since it was their money. But, unfortunately, that linked the two sets of donations in some people's eyes, even through in fact they were completely unrelated.

It was in response to your comment, not to do with "new games services".

MansoN, by posting those two links you further solidify one of my points that THIS forum is the best place to post any comments and queries, not SGS. Things happen here, they will never at SGS. I have repeatedly - in every topic related to Telkom that I've locked - made reference to this forum and welcomed users to come here instead.
I wasn't trying to solidify your point(s), but if it did, well then good! :D

Firstly, I had not posted on the SGS forums in about 6 months, I just read them. Suddenly I could no longer read them - I asked the admins why, and it was because I was "banned", the reason for this was "I'm clearly trying to harm SGS"; more details were exposed that it was due to a post I made on *this* forum (http://www.myadsl.co.za) about their involvement with bit-torrent (yes, a conspiracy theory). The same has been done to others, but less obviously as well to those who mentioned the words "Telkom" and "crap" in the same sentence. I'm not sure what code of conduct I broke, but I'm certainly going to slag SGS untill the bitter end for as long as I like now - and they asked for it.

I remeber that post wonder what happened to it.
It was something to do with SGS/SAIX supports warez distrubution because they use the same irc service. How you came up with that Karnaugh the Man upstairs only knows. Now I'm no IRC guru but what I do know is that 2 different channels on the same IRC server doesn't automatically mean that they are associated.

I guess its similar to something like lets say you and me are best friends and I talk shyt behind your back. You gonna still be ma friend?

It seems like your just sour cause you made some statements that SGS did not like and they gave you the boot. In the end it was not them that initiated it but your own doing. All problems have a root cause and in this case it seems like you were the creator of your own problems and now all you wanna do is make them look back because they dont want you back.

Just something else I picked up after visiting your site looks like you are associated with a bunch of guys who also like to take a knock at SGS every oppertunity they get. Goto http://www.team42.za.net/ and check the number 1 member. Thats my conspiracy theory.

why Karnaugh?

I have also seen more than one ocasion where some of the poeple on that list tried to question SGS and tell them that they are wrong.

lets face it SGS is not going to change their stance and rules (and I understand why)

so the point is accept it or move on

Apparently it was because i used the "HELLKOM" logo... but rules are rules, cant blame the moderator. He was cool enough to pm me and allow me back. But im not prepared to EDIT (censor) it... so just left it out, and wait for people to ask "where is #3"...

used the Hellkom logo? But Telkom withdrew their lawsuit against Greg and Hellkom, meaning all the claims they made were not true or not important.

surely #3 should be reconsidered allowable or not in light of the case being settled in favour of Hellkom.

In any case, good work nrg, we all know that its true. The Telkom propaganda machine unfortunately will ALWAYS deny everything that is true.

This happened before the lawsuit was ended, tho I don't think it will make a difference now.
