Anyone who has been to the Eastern Cape has had an opportunity to try Shamrock Pies. They're really good, and every time I am there I have a few, and always miss them when I am elsewhere. The only pies that are as good as Shamrock are made by a farmer's wife who operates a farmstall outside Jansenville, also in the Eastern cape. According to the Shamrock website, they only distribute in specific EC areas.

But today I noticed that Google places them in Midrand:

Has anyone tried them, are they as good as the EC ones?

Edit: The Jansenville farmstall is located on the R75, called Thamela Farmstall (32°53'56.15"S, 24°41'19.57"E). She makes a whole range of fillings, all are very good, but her Kudu pies are without a doubt her finest work.

I drove all over East London after a drunken Sunday drinking spree looking for Shamrock pies, yes! So good were they that I recall the fondly some twenty five years later...

I never saw the big fuss in Shamrock Pies. Maybe I'm so used to them. My uncle from Potch had a whole batch ordered last time he was here.

Yip just as good as they are the ones from the Eastern Cape, had them a few times.

Why are there so many good pie places that originate in the Eastern Cape? What’s going on there? Is it related to all the weed?

Shamrock pies are very nice, but the best pies in PE are easily the ones at Pastryworks. They're near the corner of 6th Ave on Villiers Rd, Walmer.

If you know where to look, Wagon Wheel pies in East London are also really, really good.

Thinking about the 1820 settlers. Why doesn’t eastern cape have more breweries ?
I think they use more water than the Eastern Cape has. Add the drought to lack of infrastructure and maintenance - really sad.
