Shamrock Pies

OK, I volunteer to take a pic of the Nanaga pies next week, if someone doesn't beat me to it. BTW, the Ou Meul Bakkery won Keano Kammies' pie tasting session on CapeTalk last week. I didn't catch who the runners up were.

Seriously? I have never tried. The Pie Inn in PE (Walmer Boulevard) makes some AMAZING pies

Nanaga is a shadow of its former self. Pies aren't half as good as their original ones.
 
IMO, The Pie Inn makes better pies than Nanaga. Also Jaymore Pies in PE are a worthy mention
 
The original ou meul pies in Riviersonderend used to be the best though - not so great now that they've grown and become a slightly above average mugg&bean

We buy the frozen 'family-sized' chicken pies when we are going through (although they do have branches in CT now) and in their defence that pie is solid chicken, not like the WW ones that are half gravy or so it seems. That ratio of meat to other stuff is one of the deciding factors in our estimation/classification of pies on the coastal route. And Nanaga still scores well in that department, or did the last time we sampled.
 
I think the title of this thread needs to be amended to 'best pies we have eaten' or similar. It got a bit derailed from OP's post.

I told the BF last night we must take a drive this weekend to Midrand because I want to go trie Shamrock pies. He asked how do I know about Shamrock. Said I read about it online and people are gagga over it. He then said but they are only available in Eastern Cape. I said no, they have now opened a shop in Midrand from what I understand. He then said fck .... there goes the only reason to look forward to visiting the Eastern Cape then. He used to live in EL :ROFL:
