Webmail is very responsive and spam filters work
I also unsubscribe from newsletters and mail I did not sign up for

I have no problem with unsolicited spam actually, I barely get any, what gets my tits up is the email newsletters and random crap every site on the planet sends you. My inbox is full of it, recently gone on an unsubscribe blitzkrieg, much happier.

Here's a question, is there something in Gmail that blocks any email with an unsubscribe link in it? Cos if it's possible to unsubscribe it's not important enough for me to give a ****.

Gmail does a pretty good job.

For work email, i create my own rules when something manages to get through.

1. Don't laugh but there goes about 80% of my legitimate emails..

2. Once you reply your email address will be marked as legit & live and be sold to other money-whoring dodgy enterprises.

Actually I have found that telling them they have been reported works a charm. I get no more than 2/3 a week since doing that. Only works on those "I need you to get money out of X place" scams. Normal advertising type spam NEVER reply to, but those are dealt with by the filters.

I'd add - don't try to unsubscribe - often that generates a positive 'email is live' cascade of garbage.

Multiple gmail addresses, 1 for rubbish and 1 for no so rubbish, 1 for this and 1 for that.

Friend of mine set up my mail server, using Dovecot with grey listing, I'm not sure of the exact parameters but it works like a charm.
