That is because the results really do not matter. The Western Force got whipped in their first match. They beat the Sharks in their next match. These matches are there to try things and to shake off any rust.
To be fair, the Sharks really performed much worse than expected and the first choice players came on in the 2nd half and it made no difference. John Plumtree openly admitted it's the worst he has seen them play and that the Force completely exposed them. Even when Smit & company came on they still went backwards and the Beast was given a hard time by Matt Fat Dunning. The biggest problem is that they were outplayed at the breakdown.
Earlier the Stormers really gave it to the Force but they (Force) played without several 1st choice players and fielded a much stronger team against the Sharks.
So I agree that these are just warm-up matches and should be seen as such. It's experimental. It's just a good wake-up call for Plumtree and problem areas were identified ahead of the S14, so it's all good.
