Sharks Supporters Thread

A good win yesterday. Nice to see our tackling is better and our ball carrying skills improved tremendously. Including Smit in the starting line up helped the forwards imo; it seems we've needed a leader in the pack. JP had a good game and Mvovs didn't see much of the ball. All in all, much better performance and I hope we can keep our heads in the next 3 games.

Damn the stadium was empty! and dead quiet too! It felt very strange walking to get a beer with no queues at all!
 
If it wasn't for JP's try at that crucial time I think we may have lost that one. Thankfully we didn't!

We still have big problems in midfield, which is where the 2nd 'Tahs try came from. Bosman is just not hacking it there. Neither is Terblanche. Beast had a big impact again, which is good to see.

I agree that he is a good leader. He doesn't make the sort of weird decisions that Terblanche makes. Like going for posts when we're 15 points behind and our lineouts are dominating.

At the same time though our scrum was getting very very badly hammered in that first half. Once we had swapped out the props it improved dramatically. It is no good being a good leader if you can't hold your own in the scrum.
 
Rhodes got 6 weeks from the judiciary, doesn't bode well for Deysel

No punishment (which is bollocks IMO)

A cynic might comment that it might have more to do with the nationalities of the judicial officer and the accused. However in this case I think the bans seem pretty fair.

I think the fact that Deysels could be construed as a high and dangerous tackle served in has favour (albeit tackling without the ball). Rhodes flipped the player over using his neck which is far more likely to cause serious injury.

Sad but true yes.

I spoke to a very influential player agent a while ago. This was after a player got off the hook for a very dangerous tackle. Any other day that player would have received a 4 week ban but because he had a great lawyer pleading his case he got off.

He told me that it is all about how good/bad the lawyers make you look in front of the panel. And sadly the guys representing some SA players are just to soft and don't go that extra mile for the players like New Zealanders do.
 
Durban - The Sharks have announced that French supremo Frédéric Michalak - who was part of their team that won the Currie Cup in 2008 - has joined them with immediate effect.

Having played for Toulouse since 1998 (at the age of 16) and enjoyed Top 14 and Heineken Cup action, together with over 50 matches for France, the 28 year old comes with a wealth of experience.

Michalak signed with The Sharks for the Super 14 in 2008. The Sharks, who had previously signed former French internationals Thierry Lacroix and Olivier Roumat saw him as a key player in the Absa Currie Cup campaign.

Michalak made his Super 14 debut against the Stormers and went on to feature in nine games before being a part of The Sharks' successful Currie Cup campaign later that year.

He ended his spell with The Sharks after the victorious Currie Cup Final when he re-signed with his former club Toulouse for the start of the French 2008-09 season.

"It is no surprise that I am here again. I loved my year that I spent in Durban and the cherry on the top was definitely winning the Currie Cup trophy," said Michalak.

"Unlike the first time when I signed for The Sharks, there won't be a problem in terms of any language barrier and being able to slot in with old team-mates is definitely a plus factor for me.

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl has expressed his delught in Michalak rejoining the union: "In the event of injuries, or a depletion of depth due to call-ups to the national squad, a player of his character will provide The Sharks with an unpredictability and freshness.

"He will complement our style of play, is a good influence on the players around him on the field, and we welcome him back to our squad, said van Zyl.

Coach John Plumtree added that, "It is great to have him back and be available to us for selection from this weekend. His arrival could not have been timed better."

Now that's great news!

Play him in his natural position: flyhalf. If they play him at centre it is a waste of his talent. Lambie might function better at outside centre, methinks.
 
Yup to be honest I don't think we could possibly do worse at center than we are at the moment. Also given a possible national call-up for Lambie we need cover at Flyhalf.
 
Marius Joubert will be joining the Sharks from France at the end of July.
