My electric shaver seems to be going blunt so I might have to replace it if I don't find a way to replace the spinning blades. I thought should I spend money on buying another electric shaver or should just go the way of using razors.

A deterrent for razors that I haven't used them in a long while, so I may be getting cuts and nicks for the first time, and I've only used razors a hand full of times on myself. The most I ever used razors was giving my dad a chiskop:D. Oh and I shave like once a week, it's only on the weekend that the bum fluff pops out and needs to be removed.

So what do you guys think I should go with, and if I happen to go with razors, what product should I buy and also what gel foam to get.

Razor blades are expensive so I just use a normal safety razor with minora blades like your grandfather did, even disposables do the job.

For gel I prefer the Nivea one.

Naaaah tried going razor after i lost my electric shaver... Once you've been spoiled with a good phillips electric shaver you'll never go the route of razors again.
Needless to say i'm back on the electric, its just so convenient you can shave anywhere anytime without anything(gels etc) and its certainly cheaper!

I'd never go the cut-throat route on myself!

However, I've also gone old-school safety razor - once you've become used to it, no fancy-schmancy 5-blade doohickey gives a closer shave, and paying R12 for 5 new blades just makes me feel warm & fuzzy.

They are actually very easy to use once you get the hang of it, best shave ever. Only problem is you need a few of them to rotate, a strop & a hone that you know how to use. I have two but they are both blunt...

I used to use an electric shaver. I decided not to pack the electric on an overseas trip due to concerns about charging it and went with a Gillette Sensor Excel II instead. And I haven't looked back since. I struggled a bit in the beginning due to in-grown hairs across the throat, but I learned that the most important thing to remember with a razor is to shave in the same direction as the hair growth. If you shave against the grain, you'll get in-growns. I only shave twice a week and a blade lasts me a month or more. (Don't bother with the triple+ blades. They may shave super-close, but they last me 2 or 3 shaves max.) Oh, and due to the rotating blade action on the electric, I also used to get a lot more in-growns than I do with the Excel II.

I tried every possible razor out there, every shaving cream, gel, whatsoever. I always get razor burn on the neck no matter what. Since I like my afternoon shade I ordered a Babyliss i-Stubble, a 0.5mm beard trimmer from ebay. Best thing ever except that the batteries are dying. I'll order the new model soon. This thing comes with a shaving head for smooth shave as well. Check it out: http://www.babyliss.co.uk/men_7890u.html

And not even expensive: http://www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-Men-7890U-i-stubble-Trimmer/dp/B003N7NIUG or http://more.take2.co.za/moreuk-babyliss-for-men-7890u-i-stubble-trimmer-b003n7niug.html

Do you dress like Sonny Crockett ? :D

Why don't you just replace the batteries? You should be able to open it up remove/desolder the existing ones and replace with better ones.

Yes, I actually do sometimes ;-)

I would replace the batteries but the problem is I don't find the right replacement. I took pictures and will open a new thread coz I really want new batteries.

Post them, make sure you also get what's written on the battery. Should not be to hard to find you replacement ones, these things come in industry standard sizes.

Where do you pick up the handles for those?

I've actually gone back to an electric razor simply for convenience sake. :o It's not as good but it's good enough.

Mach 3 blades was a fail for me. Too expensive and didn't last very long. The Gillette gel stuff also made my skin all dry, itchy and red even without razor burn.

I also been through two electric razors and both have been a mission to use all the time. Even the Philips one with the three round blade heads took me like 15 minutes to shave as I had to go over the same places many times before it would get it all and I would still notice missed spots afterwards, even when it was new with new blades.

Now I am also in search of something else. Need asap lol as I currently have nothing and couldn't be bothered with the electric right now. So I am going after work.

I always lost my Mach 3 blades and razors, for years on end.
Last year finally decided to go electric (as you have to be more dof than I, to lose this sucker) and never looked back.
Convenient, anytime, anywhere, close shave.

I always use electric. Hate the whole manual thing, they're only good for shaving arse hair.
But I need to get myself a new electric razor, my current one has adopted the habit of attaching itself to my face.

Use a Gilette Fusion power, had it for 2.5 years now, bought 2 packs of blades in those 2.5 years, still have 2 unused blades.
Never get a rash from it even with a dry shave (did from mach3 when dry shaving).
Cuts quickly, extremely close and unlike any of my previous razors I do not need to shave both ways to get a smooth face.
