Shocking Eskom load-shedding data under Andre de Ruyter

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) released a new report which shows that South Africa experienced the worst load-shedding since 2007 under Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter.

The CSIR’s half-year update of its statistics on utility-scale power generation revealed that 2020 was South Africa's worst year of rolling blackouts to date with 1,798GWh of energy shed and 859 hours of outages.

This record-setting load-shedding happened despite De Ruyter telling the nation that their outlook for the winter season showed little to no load-shedding.

I think it is a bit unfair to blame it on Andre de Ruyter. Proper maintenance has not been done for decades at Eskom, and there were serious corruption which caused Eskom to be in a lot of debt.

Andre de Ruyter has done a lot to fix these issues, but will take time to get out of the rut.

This article is disingenuous. De Ruyter inherited the mess that is Eskom and we can clearly see things changing. It is just a matter of time until we see improvement to the grid. At least under him the rubbish is being taken out.

I agree, but I will go ahead and blame it on De Ruyter, it's in the spirit of the rich culture and tradition of this forum to do so.

No I am just joking. I am of the view that Andre is doing a good job. Rooting out corruption should be first priority.

Did he not see that they were just looking for a "preferrebly non BBEEE" scapegoat? I would have avoided that offer like the plague.
He was so low on the list of candidates that there is not even a participation medal for that.

27 black executives did not want to touch this job even with a Gupta's short appendage.

You can’t fix 20+ years of corruption and lack of maintenance in two years. I’m not saying he’s an angel, but he inherited a shitshow that is going to take many more years to correct. At least he’s taking out the trash. I still have faith in him - provided he isn’t worked out before he’s had time to fix things.

Well it will take years to sort out the cadre mess deployed before him.

He has already done more than all the corrupt cadres before him.
Exactly, and if you don't support the corrupt cadres and share in the corruption, you are the problem. If you share in the spoils and support the corruption, then they have your back and won't criticise.

People blaming/or feeling sympathy - it's truly funny. Yet no one understands that this is the end result of centralised state planning. And no matter the type of party you have communist or "DA" (who are communists), you still have this result.

Another RET article against AdR.
Probably because of this:

I remember similar articles / accusations of racisim with AdR vs Solly Tshitangano
