Quote:There were also five taxi drivers. We all felt the same: stunned. The woman was quite unhappy. The most frustrating thing was that we didn’t understand how the process worked. Everything except our clothes was taken from us: shoe laces, belts, watches, rings, cellphones, keys and money.”

According to van Zyl, they spent the whole day in the “dirty” cell without food, shivering with cold and chatting until they were released on R500 bail shortly before 17:00.

Bwhahahahaah!!! Well done!! Hope they keep this up.:D

I also hope they keep it up. Unfortunately, I think it is just a once-off PR stunt. Taxi drivers do this all the time, they drive all over the place. And the cops are never where they need to be (they are usually around the corner manning one of their stupid pointless road blocks). There is no visible policing on our roads for moving violations. The stupid metro idiots know nothing about traffic flow, safety, moving violations.

“I know that I have transgressed and I have learnt my lesson, but I think a fine would’ve had the same effect. Five constables probably sat and filled in forms for three hours. It is a waste of labour and time for something small.

A fine will NEVER feel the same way as spending some time in a cell. :D

So thats ten less people that will travel on the shoulder lane. Keep it up Metro cops. :)

YAY :D

They should have locked up these f00ls for good and thrown away the bloody key. Rules are rules. Everybody else stands in the congested traffic, why should they? ARREST THEM ALL I say and throw away the key along with their friends the bikers with their mini number plates or non at all!!

“We didn’t endanger anyone’s lives. The traffic is terrible at that crossing. We only wanted to turn left. It relieved traffic pressure,” said Van Zyl.

Yea, sure. Coming from one of the bozos that probably would have forced his way back into the right hand lane at the last moment.

Arrest the bastards. If you are not on the road, you are not driving legally.

I say lock them up & tie them in red tape that they are forced to spend a night in jail. If it's a friday make them stay the entire weekend. Especially the fools who drive with no plates on.

It was only time someone was going to play devils advocate. As much as I hate all these terrible drivers. they make my blood boil with anger.

Seeing them in jail is good HOWEVER! We have criminals that are far worse that should be in jail. My point if we have a shortage of jails put the murderers and rapists in there and rather confiscate these peoples cars.

Well if you know that you can end up being raped you will stop doing illeagal things. Just my opinion.

Bwahaha nice try. The day in the cell will linger longer in your memory than the loss of R500.

It is a waste of labour and time for something small.
Yet i bet these are the same idiots that is moaning when a taxi push infront of them and complain that there are never any cops on the road doing their work.

There is a hell of a difference between cutting traffic (I do not condone it in fact far from it)

Than going out and killing someone while hi-jacking them.

See my point?

Yes i do but if everybody stopped doing the little things the police would have more time for the high jackers. So if you are scared of going to jail it will stop you from doing the little things. It's the same logic people apply to the death penalty.

My biggest problem with people today is that they thing that saying sorry makes everything better. Something’s has got to have bigger repercussions than just paying a fine and saying sorry.
I am 100% behind corporal punishment. Take 6 on the ass and remember, now we can’t do it like that so be afraid of the place they are sending you too. We should start making posters

o the size of your A hole if you abide the traffic laws'
0 the size if you do not and end up in jail.

FTA: but I think a fine would’ve had the same effect

No, admission of guilt fines do not deter people from doing this. Arresting -> court appearance -> fine is the best deterrance.

Well then we might as well put everyone who does not have a TV licence in jail as well.

That's over ten million people. I can't afford to pay that much tax.

It seems like selective justice. I see worse violations on a daily basis (reckless turning, extreme speeding, pushing into traffic, offloading in the centre of the road) and no-one even gives these clowns a fine. To be fair they should start with worse offenses and go on down, rather than the opposite. Guess striking taxi drivers blocking traffic or taxi drivers stopping carpool cars are OK.

I heard this type of action would be illegal in say the States, selective law enforcement is not correct.
