Hi people.

I am planning to buy this console from musica.

The reason is that it is R2000 cheaper than the one at incredible.

Can someone maybe tell me if it is only the hdd and game that is the deference between the consoles? And does anyone know what hdd the ps3 uses? I have an extra 3.5” 320 GB sata hdd at home which I would like to replace the 80gig with

2.5" SATA laptop drive which is easily upgradable & cheap so even if you went and purchased a new one you would still save a ton of money.

The consoles are all the same except some are newer revisions but that makes not difference to you at the end of the day.

No problem.

A Seagate 320GB Momentus SATA300 16MB 7200RPM Mobile Hard Drive can be had for about R400 new.

If it was me I would also buy the 80GB version and just change the HDD afterwards. The money you save could buy you a few games (3 decent ones anyway) ;)

Go for it.that's probably the best deal ever since the consoles came out.You might consider posting your findings in the Gaming-best consoles deal thread.

Thats a good price. At R2K I would say its the best deal I've yet seen. I've had my PS3 for 5mths and only used about 20GB - 10GB of that was movies from video camera, so 80GB is fine if your just loading games.

I love my PS3 80GB which still plays most of my PS2 games.

Just to add the 80GB one will be the older FAT model with the shiny black finish where the GT5 bundle will be a slimline model. 3rd Gen. vs 4th Gen.

3rd gen. uses 65/65nm gpu/cpu prosess while the 4th gen. uses 65/45nm process. The 4th gen. will obviously use less power.
Other difference is the 3rd gen. does not have the full HDMI CEC spec which allows Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreaming.
3rd gen. also does not do BRAVIA Sync XMB control (CEC)

Minor things in all honesty which I would not worry about.

Yup, all of the above :) The slim model does look nicer however.

Just thought I'd add that upgrading your HHD with one of your own does NOT void your PS3 warranty (in case you were wondering).

Is it not a "refurbished" unit?

Also how long is the warranty?

From personal experience, I got the same deal from IC, R1999 and found it dead on arrival, got my cash back and bought new slim model.

As they say, when it sounds to good to be true it normally is.

Thanks

I've heard Game sells "refurbished" units

EDIT: 1 year is not much of a warranty

Never heard of that but surely if they do it should be advertised as such? I would be seriously pissed if they did not.

Agreed, 1yr is not much, especially for something that is so expensive to repair if it goes south.

FFS

Just a few weeks ago I paid R 2500 for a second hand one...

It did however come with a second remote and a few games though :o

R 1999 for a brand new one is a bloody good deal ;)

Ok this Ps3 seems to be sold out at most Musica's.They do however have the Xbox 360/256mb with an extra controller and no games for the same price of R1999.Is this a good deal?

That is the standard price for the Xbox arcade.

For a R1299 more you can get the new Xbox 250 GB Slim model which has built in WiFi and obviously a 250GB hard drive.

Well worth the extra cash.
