Should I contest the divorce

Hedonism is the only way. Gambling, booze and other things - enjoy your downfall more than she can enjoy a potential windfall.

:D

Read through the whole thread. Various options still seem available, but if it comes down to it, and you know you're gonna get fscked by the court, this is the only way to go.

Also, if you do get stuck with maintenance, make damn sure you keep tabs on the bag, so if she re-marries/moves in/whatever, you aren't left paying for her while she doubles sponges off some other poor dude...

For the record (and it would be in the OP's best interests to heed this), once divorce proceedings have been instituted, the court will take a very dim view of any of the two parties disposing, encumbering or alienating the assets of the joint estate.

Good to see you still around offering sound legal advice, and haven't deleted all your posts.

@NoLimit, Give me her contact details. I will be her next bf, take all her stuff and bring it back to you. You have to give me something in return. 10% at least. :)

This really sucks. What the difference between out of community of property and a prenup?

:) No shortage of inventive schemes

:( The law is clearly wise to these tactics

Unfortunately with community of property she is entitled to half. Even worse they typically compelled you to continue supporting her indefinitely (i.e. in the eyes of the law a woman is a helpless child). It's one thing to have to provide temporary assistance when you are the sole income earner, but ultimately once the marriage is dissolved whichever party earned less or even nothing should be required to make their own way, and if that means a much less affluent lifestyle, then the attitude should be tough. I don't blame the one who has to keep paying viewing the other party as an evil bloodsucker. With regard to the current assets she should get nothing other than half, and the fact that she gets half is essentially your own fault. She certainly should not be getting more than half the current assets and if you can't agree on who gets what your only other option is to dispose of the assets and divide the proceeds.
