I ordered fibre and obviously its Vuma . However with the ISP its been a breeze but Vuma sent an installation team who came out and told us to dig up our own trench in order for them to install my fibre line ? They claim no one on the property has a line( but the main house does have a fibre line and we know it)... This doesnt seem right? Now we sitting without fibre and the order is on hold. What can we do or is this a norm???

never heard of new fibre customer needing to do any digging, the team that did my installation was quick to point out that they won't be doing any repairs/fixing etc to paving for example if I ask them to go under it, but they were perfectly willing to lift the pavement and dig a trench, if it was just soil or grass I'm sure they would have done the digging and refilling without question
luckily that was not needed in the end

This is what we are thinking as well?? They stayed for 2 min MAX and then dipped ! They were not willing to assist or come up with any form of alternative solutions, just a simple ' dig up your trench ,call us back and we will lay the line' ?? And now its been on hold for 2 days and im assuming we going on the 3rd with no update or communication besides us needed to dig a whole trench!!

They also pitched to install my fibre and left within 5min telling they are only allowed something like 5 to 6m and the rest(like maybe 2m extra) I must pay for but they first have to go back, ask permission and then bring me a quote.
When they returned 2 days later for their next excuse, me and the gardener had already lift paving properly, put conduits in and put paving back without breaking any pavers or leaving a mess.
I could see they did not plan to work, but had no choice than to install.

They don't want to take responsibility for damaging any possible electrical, water or sewer utilities that may lie underneath private property, thus they leave the onus on the property owner.

Wow, you got way further than I did. We stay in a Resort, the Resort has Fibre(they are the ISP for the line to the homes) the max they have is 25mbps up and down... I work viaVPN on teams and apps via head office in Germany..... So the minute I am on VPN and an any of programmes everything gets disconnected. So i need a seperate line to my house. Resort agreed it can be done.... Vuma has access to the sites.... But I am not even able to get them on sites.... When I signed up yes sure we can do this..... Then it gets down to the do.... nothing sorry we can not help. At this moment I have no solutions... and can not work properly from home. So I would gladly dig for the line. Any alternative recommendations? Can you run a Fibre above groud in for instance an Electrical pipe?

Telkom ran a fibre line off their pole that sits in my garden, it comes off the pole, runs through the air to the wall and then was tacked along under the roof eaves till it reached the room that it needed to be installed to.

Thank you, that was my thinking, we stay next to the boundry walls so it can run down the boundry walls. Yes it is about 80m but if I need to pay extra and by the pipe I will. I even tride openserve... They will come back with a quotation.... Oh and did I say we have very bad cellphone signal.... Vuma has a box to our neighebours less than 15m from our house but it is in another street so they can not tap into that. It seems everything is linked to street address

80 f'ing meters? I'd say your expectations are well off.
Any contractor IS going to tell you to do the work yourself - or pay them extra for it.
They'll handle probably max 5-10 meters max.

That's how Openserve did my installation. From the pole to where the DSL line goes in. They got in my ceiling and pulled the cable to my home office. Did a great job on running the line on the wall. You have to look closely to see any defects.
The agreement between ISP's and FNO's is a max of 30m. Anything more than that and you have to pay the FNO the difference.
MFN and Openserve installed lines to my home, both used more than the 30m allotment and I did not pay anything.
The MFN guys lifted the paving and installed the conduit and put my paving back exactly as it was before.
I think it is the luck of the draw. Some technicians really go out of their way to help you, others don't. There are reasons though at times like people being rude or unwittingly insulted them.

The key is, when the team arrives be friendly, don’t mention the distance.
Ask them how there day is going, comment on the weather it’s hot it’s cold etc.
Offer them a drink.
Just be a generally good person, more often than not they do the work no problem.
