So I came across the official Windows 10 Technical Preview download page, and I was wondering if anybody could share their experiences with it?

I'm not a developer. I just have a Windows 8.1 laptop, and think some of the features of Windows 10 sound fascinating (e.g. Cortana and the Start Menu).

If you've downloaded it already, what was your experience in terms of the ease of installing and setting it up, and what's it like to live with (e.g. stability/usability)?

Thanks!

VM it, screw around with everything you can and if you're brave, shrink your existing Windows 8.1 install and run Windows 10 in a dual-boot setup to see what it'll be like having it natively installed. I'm on Windows 10 for my desktop and I probably won't be going back to 8.1. Or 7, for that matter.

It's not really that buggy. I installed it on my main pc and I use it every day. The only problem I've run into is with the latest update, my pc lags quite a bit, but then you just roll back until it's fixed.

No, don't install it.

If you're needing to ask, it's definitely not for you.

Yeah, that's pretty much my thinking at the moment. Gonna just stick with something that works, and at least I've managed to set up Windows 8.1 in a way that I can live with it.

I've installed windows 10 and really think its LESS buggy than windows 8.1/8!! im being serious its actually not buggy for me at all... and with the added features/better start menu i think its worth upgrading now. i would definitely install it as my main OS again.:)

+1

Every time I switch on one of my computers, I thank Microsoft for Windows 10 Preview.

Even if it's beta software, it's ten times better than Windows 8.

I just couldn't stand living with Windows 8 anymore.

If you don't mind installing beta software, then I suppose it is worth a try. I have Windows 10 Technical Preview (Build 9926) installed on my laptop and it is currently running as my main operating system. I haven't run into any major issues (Just the Notifications issue)...Games run well and it is fast. Haven't had any compatibility issues with software I have installed so far.

I don't see myself returning to Windows 7 this time.

Same here, my StarCraft II runs really well. :D

Windows 10 Preview has never crashed on any of my computers since I've installed it, it's actually remarkably stable for beta software + you can tell Windows to go for "slow" updates, which means you get more stable updates than the "fast" branch.
