You can be arrested for not paying tolls. It is a criminal offence, according to the SANRAL Act. Therefore, per your logic - it is tax...

The amount of people I see daily at the e-Toll store in Centurion say "Hi."

Apparently most people are not there to register, they are trying to sort out their SMSs demanding random amounts for vehicles they no longer own. Reportedly they were taking up to 45mins to process each query so that would explain the queue.

Anyway, if hordes really wanted to register, they can buy a tag at the supermarket and register online.

I don't get the logic of flipping the e-tag a finger, but then later pay a much higher amount, putting a lot more money into Sanral's pocket?

The logic behind this is quite simple really... yes you will pay more, but since SANRAL's costs of getting the money out of you increase drastically, they actually make less money. Why else would they be urging everyone to get tagged? Their profit margin on an e-tagged user is significantly higher than the profit margin for an unregistered, untagged user.

Sanral would prefer it if everyone did not register. They will of course not admit it openly. But, that being said, someone played a perfect game in winding up Outa and JPSA and even the DA in telling people not to register.

Sanral's income will more than double if road users do not get e-Tags.

Umm, that is based on the assumption that it doesn't cost them anything to collect fees from an unregistered user. In reality, it ends up costing them more so while revenues would more than double, their internal costs of collecting those revenues will rise by a much larger proportion...

To any person who still wonders if he/she should pay or not:

Simply take a look throughout this forum at the reasons MyBB users give why you should NOT pay. Then take a look at the laws involved here and make a decision who you rather would trust.

When you end up on the wrong side of the law, I am sure these users will arm up and defy government and start a real war in order to get you off the hook - or will they?

Think about yourself and your own future. If one MyBB users jumps into a volcano why would you follow?

Certainly wouldn't trust a word you say.
