Despite some slightly grey areas like selling weed for example, NO.
If you have attacked society through committing crime and being imprisoned for it, you have forfeited any right to try and determine the future government of society.
 
when you cross the boundaries of the law humans have setup to maintain order and safety to the degree that you require incarceration, you forfeit your rights as a human and that includes voting. Simple.

Because
1. This is settled and the ConCourt has ruled
2. If we let govt have any special rules they may make other special rules.

As it stands, overseas citizens can vote nationally but not in their district...

They are already voting, or are the members of the cabinet not voting? Last I checked the big chief voted, so, don’t know why this question is being asked.
 
My answer has always been, you can vote if you pay taxes. This will allow the those who live off government grands not to be sidetracked by empty promises of more grands. Those who pay taxes knows if the money they pay to government is well administrated and can make the voting change when needed.
 
The moment you transgress against society's rules and get sentenced, you should loose all human rights, except perhaps a few basic ones, as well as the right to vote.
 
As a prisoner still has constitutional rights, he should be allowed to vote. When he comes out, he will be back in society and hopefully can still make a valuable contribution.
 
Prisoners and those with a criminal should not be able to vote. Nor should non tax payers.
 
when a person has committed a crime and is incarcerated, they lose all rights to vote especially that they are not tax payers and we the taxpayers are in fact, which I disagree, are already being too much voice. And bollocks to those who say they must be given equal rights. Until you experience robbery, murder etc people will definetly vote for the death penalty.......We need shariah laws in SA.....where the punishment fits the crime.
 
basic human needs must be fulfilled in jail also. ---George Soros must sponsor some filanthropic organization to fight for these people
