No liking what I'm seeing tbh...

- Use a better looking weather widget like HD Widgets or Weather Live.
- Uninstall the official FB & Twitter apps asap
- Install Simple for Facebook Pro & either Talon or Fenix for Twitter.

The latter two apps are so, so much better than the official ones, and won't hit your battery nearly as much.

Flipboard used to be one of my most used apps back in the day, but a few years ago it became terrible imo. Almost all articles became truncated, the UX became less usable and the advertising became excessive. Now I just use a cross-platform RSS reader - Feeder.co. Feedly is another good one.

Noted thanks. :) Will have a look at those apps

Good man! Hehe that was quick, and exactly as recommended. How you like Talon & Simple?
Both really good. Simple is a bit slow to load, but other than that its good.

Any reason you like Simple? Less heavy on resourses than the official facebook app?

The official FB app is the single most bloated and resource heavy app on the entire Play Store. If you don't give a damn about that and really like the app, then sure, go ahead.

Both Simple and Swipe (the rival to Simple) are similar and present a very significantly less heavy alternative. They also support FB messaging so you don't need a separate app for that.

I'm not sure why Simple is slow for you. I use Simple Pro and it's about as fast as the official app. Takes like 2 to 3 seconds to refresh my feed.

Pay for a Twitter client? No thank you the official one is free.

The official Twitter app is sucks bad compared to Talon and Fenix. It's also hugely bloated, as a separate issue. Talon has a much more attractive design, can fetch your Tweets and mentions with much less resource use, has no ads and unwanted notifications, allows loads of customisation, has a totally uncluttered design etc etc.

If you care about Twitter they're incomparable. 100% of Tweeters I've told about Talon gushed about the upgrade. For an app you might use quite a bit every day, it's worth the upgrade.

On a side note, it's pretty weird that you're so opposed to supporting quality app development. I see free apps as dubious, not paid ones. The only free apps on my homescreen are Telegram, the phone function, BlueMail (which will become paid eventually), Apple Music (which isn't actually free), Chrome and the Play Store. Paid apps are usually the best apps.

Is there a way in Talon, to reach the top without having to pull to refresh, then hitting the little banner that pops up at the bottom?

A simple rule to follow. If you pay for an app, you are the customer, if its free you are the product well unless its OpenSource. So I normally pay unless there is an open alternative.

And to go back on topic, decided to change my phone a tad.

Yeah. Enable the snack bar in the advanced app style settings. It tells you how many Tweets are in your timeline and gives the option to jump to the top.

No thank you I'll stick to the free apps.

Your loss bro.

Yep I agree. No one makes high quality apps with dedicated support for free.

Thanks.

On the paid app thing , i think sometimes paying a dev for their work is a good thing. Sometimes these apps cost a rand or 2, and this is all the money they make for a living. No harm in paying for a good app, and supporting a guy or gal if this is their way of putting bread on the table.

Is there something like Simple but for ios? Wife wants it on her iphone.

How many non-profits run major apps though? Telegram is weird... :p

I don't think so, although it's been a while since I looked hard. One of the reasons I hardly use iPad anymore is because I don't like the iOS apps. Facebook sucks, Twitter sucks, Tapatalk sucks, Reddit sucks, mail sucks etc.
