Do you live in a little bubble in some rural area because I wouldn't dream of wearing a Rolex around Cape Town and I’m assuming that would be the same in most South African towns.

In South Africa our criminals are plenty and not afraid to murder or injure to get what they want and a Rolex is quite high up on their want list. I've got better things to worry about than always keeping an eye open for thugs tailing me or getting ready to strike for a watch, it’s well known that they have spotters in malls etc and they will follow you when you leave in your car and then hijack you to get the Rolex. Wearing a Rolex out in public in South Africa is like wearing a giant target, just don't do it, even in many places in the UK especially London people now don't want to wear Rolexes and other flashy jewellery in public because of the high possibility of being ripped off and assaulted in the process.

Not in a bubble no. But I am not going to let the thieving ***** out there dictate the way I want to live. I have a submariner that I have been wearing daily since 2009 like I said. Now I have 3 of them. Extremely privileged.

My mom used to wear a JC ring that she commissioned in 2015 daily while she was still alive. I found the invoice for that ring this week. My dad paid R280k for it back then.

They say we can't have nice things. Fsck them. I'll take my chances.

Agree. Also the amount of fake and homage worn by most including me would be enough to cause visual distress to spotters and crims alike. I think it's a red herring. If you're driving a lambo then sure they're gonna get the wristwatch but they not gonna machete Johnny Thailand and Alex Aliexpress to win a 2k fakey. Wear w pride! And drive the Corolla...

Yes, there are so many Submariner look-a-likes on the market. There are some decent ones.

Unfortunately that's not how it works, you either mitigate risk or you roll the dice and take what comes but if you feel it's worth it risking your safety wearing a Rolex as your daily out in public in violent crime riddled South Africa go for it.
 
life is a gigantic gamble anyway, and if wearing a expensive watch or carrying an expensive phone is high risk,
then life gets pretty dull, you only get one life anyway,
also its not like criminals know what is fake and what isn't, they aren't exactly watch experts, and steal shiny things.

and you can get robbed in Fourways exactly the same as in Manchester or Toronto or Wellington

I'm hoping if the crims come closer and see my Submariner is actually a Pagani Design, they will have pity and maybe give me a few rands instead...

I wore my Rolex for 15 years without an issue.

Popped in the Oris boutique in Amsterdam a few days back. First time visiting one, and if I didn't have a train to catch I'd have walked out with a much lighter wallet.

Got to play with the new aquis models and wow, the quick release on the bracelet and the easy micro adjustment are lovely.
 
RIP fella. Not lekker to know that there are even gangs targeting these sort of watches out there.

My cheap Duro is in SA, and seems like it got past customs relatively quickly.

And it’s back. No before pics but it was pretty battered. The sort of thing to make bark&jack types **** on about patina.

New crown, pushers, hands, pins, crystal, seals. The outer clasp seems new too.

I keep flip flopping about getting a Speedy.

It seems inevitable, but I’d really like a “modern” sapphire sandwich with 3861, but that really ratchets up the price

It is a pretty movement to look at. I’m not sure I like the front sapphire though, doesn’t look quite right.

Save your pennies for a 321, that’s the daddy.

There’s a local site with 2 used FOIS but both are on junk aftermarket straps. I guess they palmed off the bracelets separately.

I noticed the price of those secondhand the other day, why are they so pricey on the secondhand market?
Do the Omega straps fit quite a few models?

Going to have to disagree.

I had the Hersalite model and ended up never wearing it, because I was constantly worried about scratches.

I would recommend the SS as it's more durable and you have something beautiful to look at on both sides.
 
If anyone sees someone wearing this cheapy Epos, please steal it back, it has sentimental value to me. Though I suspect the fekker who took it is already in prison....
