ShowMax tested

Same here.
Currently I pay for Netflix + Hulu + HBO Now + Unotelly. This looks like it will give me a pretty decent replacement, for a fraction of the cost

What is your total monthly cost at the moment (if you don't mind me asking). And is it worthwhile to get Hulu and HBO Now? Aren't most of the movies etc already on Netflix?

Not 100% sure, but around R500pm for streaming. Then another R200 to R300 for renting or buying movies.

Netflix does not have many movies. I use iTunes for movies.

Hulu gets shows as they air in the USA, Netflix gets them about a six months to a year later. HBO gets shows as they air in the USA as well. And they are not available on Netflix (They are however available on ShowMax)

This is atrocious.

Interface is non-sensical on my Smart TV and when I wanted to watch something it told me device limit reached.

I've only signed up on the website. Nothing else.

You need to sign up for the Premium R99 sub, which allows for 5 registered devices with 2 simultaneously watching.

Total of 60 "free" items on the list currently.
Mostly Kids and kyknet stuff.

Still, something to entertain my daughter with :)

Well that being the case they've already lost my interest.

Immediately flipped back to Netflix.

They took a page from the $9 Netflix sub which as the same limitations.

Yea and there was a time that worked in my house. But I had to upgrade to 4 screens. Currently everyone in the house is streaming something from somewhere. At times even 4 screens isn't enough. But I game mostly and the laaitie watches youtube. So the 4 ladies in my house watches Netflix. But let me try and watch something...

I am going to dump Hulu/Showtime and subscribe to HBO Now and Showtime separately. I won't be cancelling my Netflix subscription anytime soon though. Looking forward to their upcoming series Narcos.

The cover for Narcos just reminds me of Vinny Chase in Medellin. Which makes me not want to watch it even in the slightest

Right so I have now tested ShowMax on my smarttv, tablet and s5 galaxy, all do the same, video is out of sync with audio. I am using their last episode of suites s4e16 (which is also old as hell already?). Anyway, tried on different internet connections too with same results, so its not my side. Meh.

ISP's?

I'll give feedback around 18:00 when I get home.

I have a 20mbs unshaped IS line and I also experienced that the video is out of sync with audio. I tested it on the first episode of Thrones. Ever so slightly, but still enough to be annoying. Also, it does not show that the show is watched which is annoying.

If you have setup your Samsung TV to be on another region to get the Netflix app, does this mean you will not be able to install the ShowMax app. I just can not find it in the smart hub. What am I doing wrong?

Would also like to know.

+1

...and if running a DNS service would you have to switch region every time between watching Trompie and Mad Men... ?

I am getting the same video out of sync with audio problem on a 10Mbps. Slight but irritating because you end up focusing on the actors' mouths. But the video quality is ok for a streaming service. I wonder whether this will be enough to cause a shift back to uncapped data plans. I am on a capped account with midnight data and the 60GB anytime data would not be enough for extensive streaming.
