Shuttleworth named IT hero

Good for him, yes his contribution to the open source market was awesome, the man initiated the most widely used Linux distribution for goodness sake, and yes pretty sure with his support company is coining it. But he seriously made "Linux for human beings" a reality..so big up mark, cant wait for the next release. (just don't make it to simple to use, don't want to attract to many mindless Microsoft drones)

I will second that.... I haven't made the switch on my everyday machine...... YET!

I've made the switch to Ubuntu on my laptop at home. Love it.

I used Ubuntu for a number of years, but this year I made the switch to Mandriva because of a sound issue on my laptop.

But I will be getting me an Ubuntu disc come next release so my laptop will have triple boot:D.

That statement is wholly contradictory to both the spirit of open source and the spirit of Ubuntu (the non-distro).

I love Ubuntu but I'm a bit of a noob.. the drivers setup for my mobile dial-up was too much of a mission so I stuck with Windows

Yeah I used Ubuntu Linux ... but with the difficult U.I I switched back to Windows. This is the major reason Linux will never gain mass appeal ... its built for the i.t sector no average consumer cares about open source or properity they just want the best tool for the job. until the Ubuntu foundation realises this ...

How was the UI too difficult? It's basically windoze.
Hell, there was/is as much (or more in my opinion) adjustment from XP to Vista's default crap as there is going from XP to Ubuntu with Xwindows.

Just my 2c

Ubuntu is excellent! Not quite there yet for me to ditch windows from my main PC, but getting there for sure!

I agree.

Mark Shuttleworth, biggest hypocrite in the world.

Indeed I think we would all like to know what you're referring to. For one thing I hope the alleged hypocrisy is related to the contents of this article.

But yes, Ubuntu is by far the most user-friendly linux I've tried and I have tried many since Redhat 5. I always wanted to support Linux and found that unless I don't use the PC for any entertainment functions it's not a real alternative to windows.

Big up to Mark for trying to get the hardware manufacturers involved, while many would call it selling out the open source spirit but since for so many years open source haven't been able to tackle the problem with driver issues it was time to do something different.
