No amount of duck-tape is going to get that together in a week.

They will most likely place the new panels next to the burned building. Then build a new temporary building around them.

Then leave it for 3 years. Panels burn again and then they will finally approve the plans for the permanent substation. That is exactly what happened in the east. Wapadarand, Faerie Glen area.

Construction only started in Nov 2021. Original fire June 2018.

I know someone who lives in the area... they heard the news that the outage would not be restored any sooner than nine days at the very earliest... so they went out and bought a generator.
Hooked it up, ran it for two hours... and then the power came back on and has remained on ever since.

Similar thing happened to Substation right next to our company. Rosslyn area. Think the only reason it took only 5 days to get back was because both Nissan & BMW plants are fed by said substation.

I see Netwerk24 says they have started to repair the roof of the sub station, whereafter they can only start with the rest.

Hectic, people go to malls etc, to charge phones, and are looking for dry ice to salvage the content of there freezers.

Do they have unlimited supplies? The suppliers don't raise their prices?
Suppliers have already increased their prices with Geewiz and them adjusting their pricing accordingly. I have an account with Mecer and pay for my batteries and inverters only after they have landed with final costs determined on delivery. Geewiz do the same.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation at face value but things just don't add up when you compare the increases to other well known shops, doing some regular browsing you can tell that Geewiz don't play around when it's time to bump up those prices.

I think there was a time when their price on the Mecer 2400VA IVR went over R3k, surely the supplier prices are not being applied only to them? Even now the price of that Mecer is still around the R2.5k at most well known shops, and yes I know, it is their right to put ridiculous mark ups on their products.

Agreed.
Knowing the prices charged from Mecer for the Mecer 2400VA IVR inverter and what other suppliers are charging is Nuts. In some cases a 100% markup. However their built up backup units are competitively priced. Not sure what quality battery's they use to be priced competitively.

How long can you continuously run the generator, and how do one run a fridge freezer to make it worth while for stuff not to defrost?

A Coleman 5day/3day extreme cooler box with ice does wonders. The fuller the box, the better. Camping tricks do come in handy.

Around 12 hours for the regular cheap petrol, proper industrial ones can run forever. No issues with the freezer, as long as it's frozen it stays like that for a while.

Good thing he has an inverter so he won't need to run it into the night.

Hopefully some batteries for that inverter :)
