Silence unknown callers

Bro Google,Apple, etc already have those information. If you don't want anyone to have your information just stick with a Nokia 3310.
Yeah I don't subscribe to "well, what's one more"... Glad privacy laws exist. Unfortunately they're not enforced to the extent to be a deterrent.

It’s not optional. Installing the app is all that’s required. They ingest it all.
You cannot get my full name and email address and anything else from Truecaller. You can decide what to fill in.

You think everyone who uses Truecaller has everyone in their phone as pseudonyms? You have all your friends contacts as pseudonyms? Your friends who you recommended Truecaller to have your details as pseudonyms?

I see what you are saying.

If you are a paying subscriber, your specified name cannot be changed by anyone else and that's what shows up on someone else's phone.

But the other details you fill in by choice, like email address or anything else.

EDIT: I am also not able to search for someone's number using their names.

Probably the single best quality of life feature that has been around for ages that I only recently discovered.

Begone all spammers to black hole purgatory.

I cannot adequately express how much this feature has reduced my irritation level in the past few months.

Unknown callers with only silence at the other end... the only scary bit would be if you call the cops and after tracing the call they tell you... "the call is coming from inside your house".

Most users have phones which sync their exchange/365/google accounts which inevitably land up in their phone contacts. Your data will be inevitably within. All that data is ingested by TC if you install the app regardless if you pay or not. At minimum and depending on where you sourced the app it'll be Contact numbers and names, email accounts, advertising ID's. That's the crux. Controlling YOUR details isn't the same as sharing OTHERS details by default.

I have mine synced as well, and ONLY my name and number is given.

I cannot find details from random names I look up. Searches produce results, but no details.

So the crux is data not presented in a search, but in possession of Truecaller?

The crux is TC app users sending their contact’s data to TC to process for whatever purpose without their contact’s consent.

Meh. As a Truecaller user I don't give a schit, and I've not heard anyone complain about it other than here.

If I go to my recent call list, it's 95% or more blocked numbers and spam. Must be at least 5 years since I've had the ringer on at all. If it's important, you can send a WhatsApp, or you probably have my email address.

Until spam callers start getting prosecuted and locked up, I don't see the phone call surviving as a practical means of communication. I get somewhere between 5 and 20 spam calls a day, with maybe 1 or 2 legit calls a month (that I also ignore)

Also, to add this, some people are flagging banks and other institutions as spam, which could cause you to miss a call you're expecting, etc etc.

However I cannot deny that most calls I'm getting is spam.

and that's those institutions fault for using the same range of numbers for support calls and outbound sales calls - because thise outbound call centers of theirs are spammers

Yeah, or outsource their marketing like Virgin Active, Spar and Standard Bank sending SMS messages from the same number.

Honestly, I avoided True Caller for ages but ended up installing it and buying a subscription (to make it semi more useful on the iPhone).

I get legitimate calls and spam calls. Legitimate could include companies / suppliers I reached out to, FNB's couriers phoning me to arrange a card delivery and the Takealot delivery person trying to reach me to get into the office (they never Whatsapp in my experience!).

I therefore do need to answer the calls that come into my phone - missing these in the past have been very cumbersome and irritating. Answering only to find out it is somebody selling cellular contracts or giving comparative insurance quotes irks the living daylight out of me.
