Silence unknown callers

Not quite the same but it amazes me that people who install TrueCalller have no issue with handing over their private information and all their friends, colleagues and family's phone contacts names, phone numbers, email addresses etc for the sake of knowing who's calling...
Yeah I don't give a fck, and neither do my friends and colleagues. If you want to populate Truecaller with all that info, and not just a name, that's your own business.

I've never understood this argument. If a loved one has an emergency then they should be calling the emergency services, not wasting their precious time phoning me from an unknown number. I'm not a paramedic, an ER doctor or a fire fighter. There is literally nothing I can do to help. If you want to let me know after the fact and you're calling from an unknown number then leave a voicemail or send me an sms or even a whatsapp.
Same here. Institutions also share numbers. One day it's the bank, next month the insurance company or hospital. That's how people miss important calls.

If you think everyone is going to leave you a voicemail message because you're more important than anyone else, think again.

They should be calling an ambulance or an uber etc.

It does not need to be only a medical emergency.
My kid's school bus broke down the other day in the middle of the city and he does not take his phone to school every day. So luckily he phoned me from someone else's phone because my wife would not have answered. So I quickly went to pick him up. Otherwise he would have stand alone somewhere on a street corner.

In a medical emergency they can call the emergency services. But how are you going to know about it, because any call from anybody later on to inform you, you will not answer? I I would like to be informed as soon as possible so I could go and see that they go to the right hospital, doctor or whatever.

There is thousands of scenarios that a loved one could be in trouble and phoning you from an unknown number.

You do you, I will do what I want. I will not sit with guilt my whole life thinking why did I just not answer that call.

Not to mention the office calls from an unknown number, or a number that changes often.

Call an uber? Like a phone call? Look, you clearly do not know what an emergency is and can't imagine being robbed for example and not having any possessions left on you.

He's funny. Like in the insurance thread.

So the school would have just left him there, alone, on the side of the road?

Have you considered relocating the kid to a school that takes their responsibilities seriously?
No the driver was there. But If you think it is safe to just leave your kid standing somewhere with a bus driver in today's SA, go for it. Why would you take the chance of letting your kid stress about something like that? He knows if he phones me I will come help immediately. Thats why my kids always phone me first and not there mom, because she answered selectively.

I hear you but it’s a balance - are you going to feel guilty because you happen to miss a call?

Your life will be miserable.

I see the silenced call - I check it against Truecaller lists- if it’s spam, I hit ‘block this number’ - if not I call back.

The irritation that is solved by the automated initial ‘send to voicemail’ is instead of the call intruding on me, I have agency.

The probability of spam irritation is at this point 99.5 percent higher than the probability of missing an emergency call. Your situation may be different.

Well firstly. 99% of spam calls I get is from 010 and 021 numbers. So I just normally ignore them as no loved one of mine will be calling from any of those numbers. I maybe will answer an 021 nr if I am holidaying on CPT.
Secondly when I answer and its a telemarketer, within 2s I can hear its a sales pitch and I interrupt them and politely but firmly state I am busy and not interested.

Some people maybe need to be more of a man.
When I tell them in a firm voice. Listen Thankyou but I am busy and not interested, they just say thanks and goodbye. Easy as that. Nobody is angry or irritated, just go on with our lives.

If it's that easy certainly your wife could answer the phone?

The school wouldn't have called? Again, you might want to reconsider where you send your kid.

LOL my kid is in a very good school. You just want to continue your BS. It is exam times, how long you think will it take for bus driver to inform school and then school to either send another bus or start trying to see what kids was actually on the bus and then start calling parents?
Within 10 min of the bus breaking I picked my kid up. Other children(including young girls) who has parents like you, probably stood their for more than an hour.

Go well man.

Each to their own.

Best of luck to the kid.

It’s not optional. Installing the app is all that’s required. They ingest it all.
