So the most bizarre thing happened my wife's side.

On Wednesday her mtn network died outta the blue. No network nothing.

Didn't think anything abt it as she uses wifi and has a second sim for work.

Tonight going out we realized it's still down.

Like wtf... Called her number someone else picks up?

Um whut...

How did the number get swapped to another phone with zero intervention.

No acc tampering as no accs have been touched that we can see.

Called mtn did a wash? So hopefully fine now. Told to do a swop tomorrow. But what happened?

I have had a scam otp failed swop but they wanted my otp didn't give it number blocked. Her data is used and topped up etc so it's not a dead Sim either.

How do you think they commit sim swop fraud and steal millions in the bank account?

I had it attempted got a call asked for otp I refused and blocked.

Nothing happened her side. Just the network dying.

If a contract then I wonder, but if no contract then she did not use it, and they cut it.
But there are lots of "1'and" 0" that must travel, and somewhere a backup came back and your number was not in the backup

Someone probably cocked up and cycled the number by accident and they just reverted the change when you reported it.

SIM wasn’t swopped just the routing of the number on their network.

Still not entirely sure what happened but had to move the number to contract to get it back as a Sim reversal failed.

What a sales tactic! Wow!

They've never once offered me that, even though I've been with them for years ...
Most basic contract - at least number is safe and inline with monthly spend very minimal at R150 a month anyway.
